Daybreak mix for the day the year turns. In the old Norwegian calendar every day is a notch
on a wooden stick, and the notch for 14 September is a cross: grain in, gates down, everyone
home off the summer farms, because from that day the hidden folk have the place back. You
leave something on the table for them and you don't argue. This one’s a tribute to my sister’s
birthday.
For once, an hour uncharacteristically appropriate for seven in the morning: ambient,
cinematic, cold round the edges and warm in the middle. Matt Monro to get us up the hill,
then Floating Points, Sakamoto and Sylvian, Hisaishi, Yokota, Those Norwegians (as
advertised), Lykke Li, Vynehall, Jon Hopkins with Ram Dass, and DjRUM holding the door.
One of my own in there, for the first time on air. For two people in a hand-built van,
somewhere north of everything.
Every 3rd Friday on Voices Radio (07:00–08:00). Between the roots and the rhythm. Stay
wyrd x
