Jack does a 'horror block' and looks at a new independent horror thriller, the 'latest' (as of 5 years ago) by John Carpenter, and a classic 1982 'Giallo' by Dario Argento.

Because at the Wages of Cinema we are all about redundancy, Andrew talks about ALL ABOUT EVE again, which he did on a previous episode (see: "DAVIS" for reference), and expounds on some things he neglected to mention.

But before that, Jack gets into the Spielberg-cum-Hooper collaboration from 1982 POLTERGEIST (another of those movies that's sadly being remade for, you know, money reasons, but we digress).

Wow, what a mix to start off our 10th episode (1st segment): a tale of obsessive-deranged love, a dangerous quest across the frontier, and black goo that eats up men's erections.... But hey, we got a horror, a western, AND a sc-fi, it's a whole pulp selection. Did we mention the erections?

Jack and Andrew, mostly Andrew, have a bone to pick with Ridley "Rid" Scott. The director of several iconic and award-winning films - Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, American Gangster, The Duellists (this one Jack just watched) - and rather unwieldy flops - Legend, The Counselor, 1492 - is looked at in a long retrospective. We really get into it, folks, the good-the-bad-and-the-ho-hum.

How does one face continuing to live after not dying? And how does one live with oneself after committing an act of murder? What is life, as George Harrison once sang(?)

On this episode, Jack and Andrew explore life and death with those towering-great-who-doesn't-love-em stars Jeff Bridges and Jimmy Stewart in Peter Weir's underrated 1993 drama FEARLESS and the "all-in-one-shot" (but not really) Hitchcock thriller ROPE from 1948.

In part 2 of our conversation with filmmaker Gabe Rodriguez, we go from the features to the... shorts? How does that work? With a great degree of imagination into the realms of comedy, tragedy, time travel and situations not unlike the cartoon 'Duck Amuck'.

And now for a new segment of the Wages of Cinema - Local Vocal! This is a new series that we are trying where Jack will be interviewing local filmmakers, actors, artists and even musicians about their life and work up to this point - in short, shining a light on some people working in the creative world who you should know about.

First up is Gabe Rodriguez, a New York filmmaker with shorts, features, and (as of late) music videos! In this part one, we talk about Gabe growing up in suburban New Jersey, and the making of his first two films - features right out the gate - RETURN TO OZ: THE JOY THAT GOT AWAY and FIGHTING NIRVANA.
