There is a common notion that Ghanaian or Nigerian women abroad are not like the ones back in Africa. The African women back home are more "decent" and cultured than the Africans living in the United States or United Kingdom (UK). People have gone back to Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, Kenya or South Africa to get partners because of the notion that these women make bad wives. The question then become, is there really a difference when people get married and stay back home compared to when they get married and stay abroad?

A lot of us Africans (Ghanaians, Nigerians, Kenyans, South African etc) always pretend to have it all or act like we are living some extravagant lives abroad when we go back to our countries for holidays. We show off and act big meanwhile majority are doing menial jobs such as cleaning and security. These are honest jobs therefore why can't we honest about our lives abroad to our families back home? Why do we use credit cards. borrow and save all year just to gohome for 2 weeks and live a life of lie?

Moving from Ghana, Nigeria or Kenya to any country outside the continent gives one a rude awakening of the perception of people about us. The Wahaala boys talk about their experiences growing up in London and having to lie about where they originate from.

Most African women says African men are dogs but they forget the role they play in making them so. Majority of men who treat women badly have been hurt and treated worse by women so it seems like a response to their past. As the saying goes hurt people hurt people.
