A Call to Persevere in Faith ... Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Melchizedek may have been the high priest of the Old Testament - Jesus replaces him and we need no other or sacrifice as it was complete in Jesus death and resurrection.

As we journey home to ’the better country’ (Heb 11.16), the rest that God has promised we will enjoy with him - how wonderful it is to know that the one who helps us along that journey is the loved, tested and proved faithful, triumphant Son of God! We have all the help we need to deal with our hard and wandering hearts.

Consider God’s wonderful response to our weakness - a great high priest who knows our weakness and can help!

‘let us make every effort to enter that rest’

That’s the call of Hebrews 4.11, which will hear together this Sunday. God tells us the goal of our life is to reach our heavenly home with him. He warns us that on the journey home our hearts will often grow hard and stubborn and we will drift. But, wonderfully, Hebrews 3-4 speak of the means God has given us to help each other on our journey home.

Hebrews 2 is all about how Jesus is fully and completely human (as well as being God) and has thus been able to rescue us from slavery to the fear of death!

We’ll get to hear what is in God’s heart…we’ll have our own hearts examined and his word will do heart surgery on us.
