This week on the pod we are joined by someone new to the dad club (by about 2 months), Joe Matlock! Joe is Vice President of Matlock Tire Service and an all around good dude. We had a lot of fun talking with this new dad about working for a family business that has been around since the 1950s, generational differences of being a dad, balancing work and family life, Bojangel’s Sweet Tea and much more!
Joe dropped a great perspective on a Today’s Dad definition. His definition is based on the values that he grew up having instilled in him, treating people the way you want to be treated, and frankly, not reinventing the wheel! Joe says that a Today’s Dad isn’t that different from dads of the past, but knows how to apply these values to the modern world we live in.
This is a great episode, and we really appreciate Joe joining us on the pod this week!

This week on the pod we are joined by the host of the DILF podcast and dad to one, Kevin Seldon! We have a really great chat with Kevin about his lifelong desire to become a dad, the ups and downs of his journey to do so, his time as a stay-at-home dad, the challenges of adult friendships once you have kids, the creation of the DILF podcast, How I Met Your Mother and so much more!
Kevin drops a really well rounded Today’s Dad definition that touches on many of the definitions we have heard on this show. But he focuses on how a Today’s Dad isn’t afraid to be vulnerable, is able to admit his faults and encourages his children to do the same.
Be sure to check out the DILF podcast and give them a follow! A big thanks to Kevin for joining us on the pod this week. Be good to one another this week friends!

This week on the pod we are joined by dad to two, husband, former pro cyclist, finisher of 18 Grad Tours, Peloton guest instructor and NBC analyst for cycling, Christian Vande Velde!
We had a great time talking with Christian in what has shaped up to be a very odd summer for him. Normally Christian would be in France right now covering the Tour de France, but Covid has certainly impacted that. We covered a lot in this episode. From being the son of a professional cyclist, to his years as a pro rider and how that changed once he became a dad, to retirement from the sport and becoming an analyst for NBC and so much more. And for the cycling fans out there, don’t worry we also talk about some of his favorite memories on the bike, his relationship with Paul Sherwin, and other great stuff.
But VDV’s Today’s Dad definition set the episode off on a great foot. He talks about how a Today’s Dad is really making it up as they go. How they are constantly evolving and how his kids make him a better person.
A big thanks to Christian for joining us on the pod this week! We know you all will enjoy this one!

This week on the pod we are joined by Justin Burke! Justin is a single dad to one, a pastry chef, an cookbook author, a Covid survivor and gay. There was no holding back on this episode, it is a really good one!
Justin’s story about how he came to be a father, his divorce and journey into co-parenting really shows his character and passion for being a Today’s Dad. Much like his work he has done over the years in restaurants to build community, his Today’s Dad definition focuses on community and viewing partnering/fatherhood as a tool to build up a positive community around what it means to be a dad.
We are excited to see all of Justin’s new projects come out that he is working on, and will be sure to check back in with him when they do! A big thanks to him for coming on the pod and sharing his story! This is one you won’t want to miss.

Welcome to the July 2020 Rickhouse. The home of the ever maturing Today’s Dad definition! The goal of Wake. Dad. Drink. Repeat. is to “define Today’s Dad”...we do this by asking our guest to share their definition at the top of every show. We store these definitions week after week on our podcasts, YouTube channel, in our RICKHOUSE on our website, social media platforms and we constantly highlight them. Our Rickhouse is our way of distilling our information into a tasty blend to share.
These episodes will drop the last Friday of every month, adding to the ever maturing and complexity that is a "Today's Dad" ~ Enjoy

This week on the pod we are joined by the founder of Wilderdad (a top 100 dad blog), husband, and dad to Ella, Steve Lemig! On top of all of his other duties, Steve is also the Communications Director for Road Runner Sports.
We had a great talk with Steve about his bizarre childhood, and how he used the outdoors as a way of escaping and healing, and how he now uses it to connect and share with his own daughter. Steve also tells us all about Wilderdad, and why he started the space back in 2017.
This is a really great episode, and Steve’s Today’s Dad definition really highlights how a Today’s Dad is involved both physically and emotionally with their kids.
A big thanks to Steve for joining us on the show this week! Be sure to check out Wilderdad! Hopefully this episode will leave you feeling inspired to get outside with your kids soon!

This week on the pod we are joined by dad to two and the founder of fodada clothing, Bobby Barzi! Bobby started fodada in 2012 and has been supporting the growth and redefining of “fatherhood” ever since.
It is no surprise that his Today’s Dad definition focuses on the evolution of a Today’s Dad and how the role is really less defined and “boxed in” than it used to be, but also how fatherhood is a platform to help us create change and understanding in all other aspects of our lives. We really loved this definition and know you will too!
A big thanks to Bobby for joining us on the podcast this week! Give fodada a follow on social, and order a shirt or two to help support their mission...plus they are super comfortable and cool looking shirts!

We are joined this week by Blair Wheeler. Blair is a soon to be dad to two, husband, a sales and marketing professional, former pro surfer, golf media content creator, podcast host and all around great dude!
We did things a little different on the show this week with interviewing this dad-to-be. Blair and his wife are expecting twins in the next couple of weeks so we chat with him about how they are preparing to have babies during the Covid-19 pandemic, how he thinks life is going to change once his kids arrive, how he is going to fold his kids into his social content, and much more.
Blair’s Today’s Dad definition focuses on always being supportive. Whether it is for your kids or your spouse, a Today’s Dad does what it takes to be there and to support. A big thanks to Blair for joining us on the pod this week, be sure to give him a follow, check out his new podcast Golf N’ Stuff, and to wish him and his wife luck as they get ready to start this next chapter of life!

We are joined on the pod this week by Chris Chafin. Chris is dad to an eight month old, a husband, the host of two different movie podcasts (ABC Movies and 30 Years Later), and a journalist who's written for Rolling Stone, Fast Company, and New York Magazine's Vulture, and lately has been writing about parenting for Vox.
Chris recently wrote an article for Vox about four different dads and how the pandemic has transformed their notion of fatherhood. We spoke with Chris about this article and about what life has been like as a new dad in these crazy covid times.
Chris dropped a very real and to the point Today’s Dad definition. His take on a Today’s Dad is that a Today’s Dad is really just trying to not fuck up. It may sound simple, but there is a lot more to it!
A big thanks to Chris for joining us on the pod this week. Be sure to check out his work and give his podcasts a listen!
