Luke Grants talks to Professor Gary Martin, CEO the Australian Institute of Management WA, about nomophobia… the no-mobile-phone phobia experienced when you’re disconnected from your smartphone either physically or because you’re unable to use it due to your situation, lack of coverage or a flat battery.

Symptoms include anxiety, respiratory alterations, trembling, perspiration, agitation, disorientation and fast or irregular heart rhythms.

Given society’s reliance on mobile phones, nomophobia is recognised as possibly the largest non-drug addiction of the century.

Luke Grant talks to Peta Bauer, owner of border collie ‘Jed’, who has become the first of his breed to claim the title of Cobber Champion, the first winner from South Australia, and the first winner by a female owner.

Jed’s owner Peta Bauer said she’s not surprised by Jed’s success, but that his distances were astounding.

“I knew Jed did a lot of work, but the fact that he was consistently doing so many kilometres each day just shocked me,” said Peta. “His stamina is amazing.”

“The great thing about this competition is the recognition it brings to working dogs and the loyalty and commitment they offer on Australian farms,” said Kellie Savage, competition organiser and Cobber Marketing Manager.

Luke Grants speaks to Ian Henschke, Chief Advocate for National Seniors Australia, regarding Bupa aged care facing allegations of maggots in an elderly cancer-suffering resident’s ear

 

As reported, taxpayers have funded disgraced Bupa nursing homes nearly half a billion dollars to care for 7,400 elderly residents across the country last year, but cancer patient John Callaghan was found with maggots in his ear when left with undressed wounds.

Luke Grant is joined by Emma Cooper, Sydney Water - Acting Head of Networks, about residents in Sydney’s west that were forced to leave their flooded homes after a water main burst.

 

The flooding occurred at around 7.15am on Saturday on Bringelly Road in Kingswood which caused up to 60 homes to be affected.
