Tim Collins, Aviation Expert from Upstream Aviation, joins Clinton Maynard regarding the emergence of a true third airline in the form of Rex competing on trunk routes between capital cities was never going to be without resistance.

Rex’s foray into the intercity airline market is no doubt underwritten by its profitable regional routes, some of which are protected by state government competition regulation and in other cases, benefitting from federal government largesse.

With Jetstar and Qantas controlling both the premium business and bottom leisure ends of the mainline market, other than flooding the market with cheap seats, there’s little more Qantas can do to deter Rex from starting up its intercity services.

Perhaps Australians become more trusting around the festive season or perhaps scammers have a budget to reach, but whatever the reason, December always generates a spike in thieves trying to imitate the ATO.

Tax Expert, Ross Forrester, reveals four simple checks and strategies that will help you stay safe this holiday season.

1.   We need your tax file number. If somebody calls you asking for your tax file number, don’t give it to them.

2.   Threatened with jail. You will never be threatened with a jail sentence on the first correspondence with the ATO.

3.   You must pay in iTunes, Google Play or Bitcoin. The ATO does not accept payment in any of these forms.

4.   You must pay immediately. A scammer will do anything they can to keep you on the phone while you transfer the money to them and to stop you from seeking advice.

Clinton Maynard is joined by Pete Khoury, NRMA Spokesman, regarding a new NRMA survey that has found overwhelming support for the role of highway patrol cars in driving down the state's road toll.

The survey of 1141 NRMA members found 82 per cent believed an on-the-spot penalty notice or warning from a police officer was the most effective way to change bad driver behaviour, while only 10 per cent identified speed cameras.

It found 68 per cent believed there should be more marked highway patrols and most said seeing police cars on the road had a significant impact on their driving.

Mr Khoury says while speed cameras played a part in reducing the road toll, there was no substitute for police patrols.
