"Valley of the Moon" - Candy Matson - December 17, 1949

Candy Matson is a radio program on NBC West Coast that aired from June 29, 1949, to May 20, 1951. It centered on Candy Matson, a female private investigator with a wry sense of humor and a penthouse on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. The program was notable for having a striking female character "without a trace of squeamishness" as well as a veiled gay character in Candy's best friend Rembrandt Watson.

A married woman moves back to her birthplace in New York when her husband is posted there for work. She visits the house she grew up in and meets a childless old lady. They bond in a strange, symbiotic manner as mysterious things happen to her childhood quarters.

Eighty-two years ago today, the film Gone With The Wind premiered. For most of those eighty years, it has been on every Best Film top list of every institute. I cannot remember the first time I watched this film, I was very young. I have seen it enough that I can drop in and drop out of it when I come across it on TV. You have to see this film!

Fifty-seven years ago today, the film Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte premiered.

Originally the film was staring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, but as they didn't get along and fought about every single thing, it didn't go well. Eventually, Joan Crawford feigned illness as a power-play to get the studio to agree to her script changes, going so far as to check herself into the hospital. They instead fired her and replaced her with Olivia de Havilland after Barbara Stanwyck, Loretta Young, and Vivien Leigh all turned down the role.

This is a digitized version of an in-store reel to reel tape that was played within a Kmart store in December 1974.  The opening Kmart jingle is interesting at the beginning of both hours, and there are theft deterrent security pages and store policy announcements between every few songs.  This must have been in attempt to discourage shoplifting.

"Swing Years and Beyond" – Frank Sinatra Special December 12, 2015

The Swing Years and Beyond was a radio program on KUOW, an NPR station from Seattle. It began in 1968 and was hosted by then-KUOW program Director Don Wirtz before he handed the reins to Bill Snoopy who became the first to hold the position long term. In 1979 Cynthia Doyon took over the hosting duties, and in 2003 Amanda Wilde hosted until the last show on February 25, 2017.

There is a generation of Seattle residents that spent at least some of their Saturday nights listening to a thoughtfully curated playlist of music from the 1920s to the 1950s. I was able to connect with Amanda Wilde and offered to make one of her shows available for fans to download. Then, my scouring of the internet turned up two other shows available and have added them here.
