"The Swing Years and Beyond" November 8, 2008
The Swing Years and Beyond was a radio program on KUOW, an NPR station from Seattle. It began in 1968 and was hosted by then-KUOW program Director Don Wirtz before he handed the reins to Bill Snoopy who became the first to hold the position long term. In 1979 Cynthia Doyon took over the hosting duties, and in 2003 Amanda Wilde hosted until the last show on February 25, 2017.
There is a generation of Seattle residents that spent at least some of their Saturday nights listening to a thoughtfully curated playlist of music from the 1920s to the 1950s. I was able to connect with Amanda Wilde and offered to make one of her shows available for fans to download. Then, my scouring of the internet turned up two other shows available and have added them here.
Today is the 104th birthday of an original, often imitated, never duplicated, the one and only Edith Bouvier Beale. By now, everyone has seen the documentary, the musical, the movie, everyone knows her story, and still she remains a truth and guiding light to every misfit I know. She is one of the most interesting people of the 20th century and definitely one of the most culturally significant. Watch the documentary soon, it is available on Hulu and other places and remember what it is like to not worry about what others think of you and what it is like to let yourself be it’s truest pure form. Authentic. The world was a better place because she was in it and still feels the loss since she has left it.

A Reference Of Female-Fronted Punk Rock: 1977-89 - Disc 2
There seems to be a lot of lore around the compilation. A guy from San Francisco named Vince B. Made a 12 DC-R mixed tape of punk bands fronted by female vocalists from 1977 to 1989. He only made a few and gave them out to friends. I found the downloads and fell in love with them, so I shared. Overall, this has been one of my most popular posts of all time.
