Sixty years ago today, the film Breakfast at Tiffany's premiered. One of the most popular films of all time and one of one of the most popular movie songs of all time. One of the most memorable times I saw it was at a very small basement theater in downtown Seattle. It was so intimate and special, I fell in love with the film in a different way.

Today is the 113th birthday of Carole Lombard.  My Man Godfrey is on of my all-time favorite movies and that is due in a large part to Carole Lombard. She is perfection. Her life story is one of those that even Hollywood couldn't make up and have people believe it.  The world is a better place because she was in it and still feels the loss that she has left.

Nora is all out night, and breaks a mirror, and asks another man to marry her. Nick suspects she’s been drugged.  Things get even more serious when they find a corpse.

"Oyster Shucker at the Fifty Fathoms" - Rocky Fortune - October 6, 1953

Rocky Fortune is an American radio drama that aired weekly on NBC Radio beginning in October 1953. The series ended its run in March 1954 after 25 episodes. The program was created by George Lefferts. Frank Sinatra voiced the title role of Rocky Fortune for the entire series.

Today is the 126th birthday of the actor (and my personal style icon) Buster Keaton.  I absolutely adore his expressionlessness in everything.  And then, have you seen Sunset Boulevard?  I have put the clip below.  So great.  Like a neglected old friend, I sometimes feel like I am not paying enough attention to his films, like I need to keep them closer.  The world is a better place because he was in it and still feels the loss that he has left.

"The Swing Years and Beyond" September 27, 2008

The Swing Years and Beyond was a radio program on KUOW, an NPR station from Seattle. It began in 1968 and was hosted by then-KUOW program Director Don Wirtz before he handed the reins to Bill Snoopy who became the first to hold the position long term. In 1979 Cynthia Doyon took over the hosting duties, and in 2003 Amanda Wilde hosted until the last show on February 25, 2017.

There is a generation of Seattle residents that spent at least some of their Saturday nights listening to a thoughtfully curated playlist of music from the 1920s to the 1950s. I was able to connect with Amanda Wilde and offered to make one of her shows available for fans to download. Then, my scouring of the internet turned up two other shows available and have added them here.
