  • Love Is The Fulfilling Of The Law

Love Is The Fulfilling Of The Law

Romans 12:9-10 “The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed in this sentence, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

I read this verse this morning and I thought it was a great one to talk about.  I loved every part of it and so I wanted to share it with you.  The first part is saying all the commandments can be summed up in one sentence.  “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  There are not a lot of commandments, there are only ten.  However, how many of us remember all ten?  I am not sure I could recite all 10 of them.  So, when I read this and saw that all I really need to focus on is loving my neighbor I thought that was pretty great.  It is certainly easier to remember than trying to remember all 10 of them.

I realize as I am writing this, that although loving my neighbor is easier to remember it is not always easier to do.  I think if we read the commandments we might look at ones like “Thou shalt not kill” and think, I can do that.  I can go through life without killing someone.  That is not to say you won’t want to every now and then, but you are fairly confident that you don’t have to worry about that one.  However, there is actually so much more to that commandment.  Maybe you won’t kill someone’s physical body, but would you kill their spirit by teasing them or picking on them?  Would you kill their reputation by talking badly about them behind their back?  There are more than one way to kill someone and sometimes we don’t think of it like that.  However, you would not be doing any of those things if you were loving your neighbor.

What about “Thou shalt not steal?” This is one that is easy to see how we wouldn’t do it if we loved our neighbors.  If we loved those around us then we wouldn’t steal from them because we would care about them.  We also wouldn’t rob stores because we would see that they are our neighbor and we wouldn’t want to see them hurt.  We wouldn’t want to see them lose their business.  We also wouldn’t want to hurt our friendship is we loved them.  We would care what they thought of us and we wouldn’t want to let them down.

The reason I said that although only having one commandment to remember is easier to remember, but not necessarily easier to do is because loving others can be hard at times.  Loving our kind neighbors is not hard.  For most of us, it is easy to love someone who is nice to us and who treats us well.  We love people who are outgoing and have great personalities.  We love people who we connect easily with and who are easy to talk to.  However, what about the grumpy old man next door, or the grumpy old lady next door?  Are we supposed to love them?  How do we love someone that is grumpy?  Or a better question, how do we love someone who isn’t nice to us?  What if we have a neighbor, or a relative that has always treated us badly?  Surly God can’t want us to love that person?  He does, he wants us to love everyone.

Do you see now why I said this commandment may be more difficult than all the others combined?  It feels impossible to love some people and I get that.  If you have been hurt by someone, especially if it was a family member then trying to love them can feel impossible.  If this is you, I would say, don’t start there.  Start where it is easy.  Love those that are nice to you and that are easier to love and then work your way up, slowly to those that are harder to love.  I have said this before and I will keep saying it until we actually believe it, God doesn’t need our perfection.  He doesn’t need us to love everyone perfectly.  However, He does want us to try.  He does want us to love more than we hate.  Knowing that God is not looking for perfection, can you try to love your neighbors a little more?  When it says neighbors, He don’t just mean your physical neighbors, He means all those that you meet.

Does knowing that loving your neighbors fulfills all the commandments change how the way you view loving your neighbors?  Does it make it seem more important to try to do this?  I love how the verse above says, “Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”  The thought of love as the fulfillment of the law is a beautiful thought.  It is also a sad thought if we think about how much love is missing from this world.  When I look around I don’t see love all around me. I see anger, division, resentment, hatred even.  Then if I think about love being the fulfillment of the law I think that we aren’t not doing a great job fulfilling the law.  We can get really overwhelmed if we think about the whole world and how much the world is lacking in love.  But, what if we just focused on our small part of the world?  What if we didn’t worry about others and we just focused on ourselves and how well we were loving our neighbors.

Let’s focus on what we have control over and let’s strive to love the best we can.  What can we do to love our neighbors more?  What can we do to love those that seem unlovable?  If love is the fulfillment of the law, how can we incorporate more love into our lives?  Let’s ask the Lord to show us the answer to this question.  If we know we are struggling to love someone because of past hurts, bring it to the Lord and ask Him for help.  He can help us do the impossible.  God is calling us to love more.  He is calling us to share His love with the world.  He wants us to be His reflection in the world.  Every week at prayer group the Lord is telling us that He wants us to be His instruments here on earth.  He is showering us with love so we in turn can shower others.  What is one thing you can do today to love someone a little more?

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode.  Lord, we want to love our neighbors, we just don’t know how, please help us.  We want to love all those around us, even those that seem unlovable.  Lord, we all have that person or people that we can’t seem to love because we can’t forgive them for all the things that have happened in the past.  Heal our hearts, soften our hearts, help us to forgive and to love all our neighbors, regardless of circumstances.  Just because we love someone doesn’t mean we need to spend time with them.  If someone hurt us we don’t have to let them back into our lives, we can love them from afar.  Lord, help us understand all of this.  If there is more we could be doing please put that on our hearts.  Please send the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to the ways we are not loving our neighbor and then give us the strength to start loving our neighbor more.  We love you Lord, you love us so freely and we want to imitate that, please help us.  You are truly amazing and truly an example of how we should love.  We are so grateful for all you do and we ask all this in accordance with your will and in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  Tomorrow’s guest is Andrea.  She will share her witness about how God has saved her life and also helped her through terrible anxiety attacks.  This is something so many people are struggling with right now and if I know her story will help a lot of people.  If you struggle with anxiety or you know someone who does, please share this episode with them.  Andrea opens up about what it felt like and what she did to combat it.  This weeks format is a little different. After her witness we spent some time just talking and I asked some questions as I know several people struggling with anxiety right now and thought they could use some additional information. I am sure everyone will get something out of this testimony.  I look forward to sharing it with you tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!

  • Hearing The Voice of Our Good Shepherd

Hearing The Voice of Our Good Shepherd

Revelations 7:17 "For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’”

What a beautiful image of God wiping away every tear from our eyes.  I don’t know about you, but I am a crier.  I tend to cry a lot.  God is going to be busy if He is going to wipe away every tear.  In all seriousness though, this is a beautiful scripture.  It starts off by talking about the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd.  That Lamb is Jesus.  He is our good shepherd.  It says in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”  This is exactly what Jesus did for us, He laid down His life for us, his sheep.  I heard a story yesterday from a friend about an incident that happened when she was walking in Walmart during the pandemic.  She was walking in Walmart with a mask on because there was still a mandate that a mask was required to shop there.  However, there was a man walking towards her with two young girls with him.  When he passed my friend he made sheep sounds at her.  He was implying that she was a sheep and that she was blindly following the other sheep.

I have heard this analogy often and despite the popular belief that sheep are stupid, they are actually incredibly intelligent. They have very impressive cognitive ability and just like humans, they form deep and lasting bonds with each other, they stick up for one another in fights, and they grieve when they lose a friend. They experience all of the same emotions that we do including fear, joy, boredom, anger and happiness to name a few.  We envision the sheep blindly following whoever and going wherever they are told to go.  This is not the case.  Sheep recognize their shepherd’s voice and they will go wherever their shepherd tells them to go.  They have complete trust in their shepherd.  The shepherd in return for this obedience loves them and is willing to lay down his life for them.  How beautiful is that?

I think this is one way that sheep have an advantage over us.  They recognize their shepherd’s voice and so they follow it.  I think we have a hard time figuring out whose voice to listen not. The world is so busy and so noisy and there are so many voices speaking into our lives.  There are the voices of the loved ones around us. They are speaking to us and leading us in a direction they think we should go.  Then there are our friends who may not have the same beliefs we do and they are leading us in the direction they think we should go.  Then there are all the voices of those in the world that also usually have opinions of how we should and shouldn’t be living.  There are so many voices and we get confused and we don’t know which ones to listen to.  Often times the voices and the noises of the world are so loud we can’t hear the voice of our good shepherd.  The voices of the world are not the voices that we need to be listening to and yet they are so loud we can’t hear any other voices.

The verse above says that the shepherd will lead us to springs of living waters.  Don’t we want this?  Don’t we want to follow the shepherd that will lead us to springs of living waters?  So, how do we learn to hear the Lord’s voice more?  How do we learn to tune out all the noise of the world so we can focus in on the Lord’s voice?  First, we can begin by spending time each day trying to hear the Lord’s voice.  How much time do you spend each day asking the Lord for things in prayer?  How much time do you spend sitting quietly and asking the Lord what He wants to say to you?  The Lord wants to talk to us, we just don’t give Him the time to talk.  This can be your first step.  Just sit quietly ask let the Lord know you are ready to listen.  At our prayer group we usually begin by saying, “Speak Lord, your servants are listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10) You do not have to start off by sitting down and giving God 30 minutes of quite time to speak to you.  If you have never done this before 30 minutes is a long time.  Even if you have, it still may be a long time.  Just start out with 5 minutes of quiet time and see what happens.

The next step that can help you start hearing the Lord’s word more is to write down whatever He tells you in that five minutes.  I struggle with just sitting there and not thinking of anything and not doing anything for 5 min.  So, I do an exercise I learned from Fern Gorin at the Life Purpose Institute.  I ask the Lord to speak to me through my pen and then I write down whatever comes to mind for the next 5 minutes or however long I am sitting there for.  This is especially helpful because then you can go back and read over it.  Now, is every single thing that comes to mind in that 5 minutes from the Lord, probably not, but it is a start.  I think the more times you do this, the more and more of what you write will be from the Lord.  Also, you are asking the Lord to show up and when we ask, He answers.  So, why wouldn’t he show up and talk to you through your pen?  The key to this exercise is to not question everything that comes into your mind.  Just write it all down and then you can read over it later and think about what you think the Lord was telling you.  While you are writing, don’t second guess your self, don’t let the enemies voice come in and get you to question why the Lord would talk to you, block out all the doubt and just trust that you asked the Lord to show up and so He will.

If we want the shepherd to lead us to springs of living waters and we want the Lord to wipe away every tear, then we need to learn to listen to the shepherd’s voice and to follow Him where ever he is leading us.  The way I suggested above is just one way to begin to hear the Lord’s voice.  If it doesn’t resonate with you, no worries, do something different.  We are all different people and we all do things differently.  The important part of this message is not that you listen to the Lord’s voice the same way I do.  The important thing is that we all figure out a way to block out all the noise of the world and start finding a way to hear the voice of our good good shepherd.

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, we ask you to help us hear your voice.  We want you to lead us to the living waters and to wipe away all our tears.  Help us to hear your voice above all others.  Help us to block out the noise of the world and concentrate on your voice.  Lord, we are so grateful for all you do for us.  We are so grateful to be counted as one of your sheep.  You are an awesome shepherd and we love you.  We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Thank you for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you again tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!

  • Have Mercy!

    Have Mercy!

Matthew 12:7-8 “But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless.  For the Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.”

What stuck out most to me in this verse is when the Lord says, “I desire mercy and not sacrifice.”  Today during prayer group, we had several words about mercy.  I was also typing up the minutes from our meetings last September and there were several words given about God’s mercy then too.  Also, the teaching today at the meeting was on God’s mercy.  There is no way I could hear God talking about mercy that many times, and then not mention to all of you.  This verse is about the Pharisees are complaining because Jesus and His disciples were picking grain in the fields on the Sabbath because they were hungry.  They needed to eat.  This is when Jesus speaks up and tells them that if they knew what the phrase “I desire mercy and not sacrifice” meant, then they wouldn’t be condemning the innocent.  What does that phrase mean?  The Lord desires mercy from us.  He desires us to be merciful and to share His mercy with others.  I actually have four words of prophecy to share with you today because they were given to our prayer group to share and because who better to help us understand how much the Lord desires mercy than the Lord himself.

The first word I want to share is from the meeting that we had today.  This word shows how much the Lord longs for us to ask for mercy and to share mercy with others.  Here is what was said: "If you only knew how my mercy longs, it aches to be sent out to more and more. Ask the Lord for mercy every day, every hour, to relieve my pain. The pain in my heart that suffers for you and for all who need my mercy, who are afraid of my mercy, who run away from my mercy. Call them in, draw them to me, pray that the Lord of mercy will have mercy, so that my heart will be relieved of more, of more, of more mercy."  Wow, can you hear the desperation in the Lord’s voice?  He wants to give us mercy.  Why aren’t we asking for it?  Why are we afraid of his mercy?  Why are we running away from it?  Is it because we don’t think we deserve it?  It is because we don’t think we need it?  Take a moment and think about yourself.  Are you accepting the Lord’s mercy?  Are you asking for it?  Are you one that is afraid of it or are you running from it?  Why is that?

The next word that I want to share was also given to us at the prayer group meeting today.  Listen to His words and see how God is calling out to us, He is calling out to you.  Can you hear Him?  He said: "Come, come to me. I call you often but you get distracted. Come, come to me first. Come to me quickly. Bring everything with you, bring everyone with you. My mercy is so great, my love, my forgiveness is so powerful. I am the Lord God most high. I will save all who seek me, don't give up on anyone. One little movement of their soul and they can have heaven with me for eternity.”  I don’t know about you, but I can definitely relate to this one too.  I feel as though I am constantly distracted.  I want to come to the Lord, I want to come to Him first and yet I let so many things get in my way and distract me.  I seem to constantly be getting off course on my way to Him.  I love when it says, “I will save all who seek me, don’t give up on anyone.  One little movement of their soul and they can have heaven with me for eternity.”  How great does that sound? What this word is saying is that God can save anyone.  It sounds like He knows we have a tendency to think that some people are beyond saving.  I love that he lovingly reassures us that no one is beyond saving.  He reminds us that his mercy is great and his love and forgiveness are so powerful.  God is good!

The next word that I want to share with you was given last September.  It talks about God’s mercy and how God wants us to share His mercy with others.  He said: “Remember I am light in the darkness and as you walk, because you are my light, you bring light into the darkness. And in that light is my mercy and that is what you bring to others, my mercy, through your speaking, through your loving, through your compassion. You are part of letting my mercy go, so walk always in my light and know that no darkness can cover you because you are mine. You are mine for eternity. Remember you are mine.”  How great is that word?  We are His for eternity, yes please.  That is awesome.  What amazes me the most is that God wants us to share in brining his mercy to others.  He could just do it himself, He doesn’t have to include us, and yet he does.  He lets us share His light with the world too.  We bring light to the darkness.  In that light is the Lord’s mercy.  This word says that we bring His mercy to others through our speaking, our compassion and our loving others.

Take a moment to evaluate yourself.  Are you living up to this?  Are you spreading mercy or are you spreading judgement and condemnation?  The Pharisees were not spreading mercy.  They were condemning the blameless because of their judgement.  We must be very careful not to do this.  We must be very careful to be a light in the darkness.  It is easy to judge, it is easy to add to the darkness.  That is not what we are being called to do.  We are being called to share the Lord’s mercy with others.  We are being called so spread God’s light to others.  Are we doing this?  If we aren’t doing this, what needs to change so that we can do this?  What do we need to do differently?

The last word I want to share with you today is from last September.  In this word, the Lord is asking us, yet again, to share His mercy.  He said: “My children, my mercy flows from me to you so that in turn it may flow from you to others.  Mercy is what I give so that you in turn can give my mercy to others. Do not be afraid, I am with you. Be a people of mercy, reflect my heart for I am a merciful God and you must be a merciful people.”  The Lord speaks to us at every single prayer meeting.  He says all sorts of things to us.  What are the chances that there would be this many words of prophecy on mercy today.  This wasn’t even all of them.  mercy was mentioned at least three more times.  It is so clear to me and after hearing all these words from our Lord, I hope it is clear to you too.  The Lord is calling us to be a merciful people.  Can we answer this call?  Can we offer more mercy and less judgement?  Can we work on being a light in the darkness and sharing the Lord’s light with others?  What is one thing we can do today to help share the Lord’s mercy with others?  If you are not sure, ask the Lord, He will tell you.

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, help us be a light in the darkness.  Help us to share your mercy with others.  Help us to ask for mercy and to give mercy.  Lord, help us to be the merciful people that you are calling us to be.  We need your help Lord.  We are so grateful that you gave us these wonderful words.  We are grateful that you give of your mercy so freely.  We love you Lord, you are so amazing.  We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to seeing you on Monday.  Have a blessed day!

  • God's Glory

    God’s Glory

Exodus 33:18-19 “Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”

Do you know what I love about Moses? He wasn’t afraid to ask God for things.  Do you ever feel like you don’t want to ask God for something?  Do you feel as though you don’t deserve anything so why ask God?  Or maybe you wonder, “who am I to ask this of God?” All these feelings have merit.  We aren’t really worthy of most of what we ask for.  Well, we aren’t worthy in our own right.  However, God made us in His likeness and image.  I try to remember this when that question comes up in my head.  When I ask myself, “Who are you, that you can ask God for this or that?” I answer myself, I am a child of God, made in His likeness and image. Moses knew He wasn’t worthy of this special treatment and yet He still asked God for things all the time.  I think we would all like to see the Glory of the Lord, yet would we think to ask God for it?  Moses did.  He wasn’t afraid to ask.  Well, maybe he was afraid, but he asked anyway.  Either way, he asked and because he asked he got to see the goodness pass before him, what a reward for his faithfulness.

I think this passage stood out to me today because I had a discernment meeting today and one of the words of prophecy that we were discerning was about God’s glory.  It was interesting and something I did not know so I though I would pass it along to all of you as well.  Here is what the Lord said, “My children, I desire to share my glory with you.  But my glory and obedient suffering go together.  They are intwined.  Both give life, both are beautiful.  Can you enter into my glory?  Can you obediently enter into the suffering that you share with me?  Come, come enter in, be not afraid, I am your strength, I am your joy, I am your help.”  Isn’t that powerful?  When I think of glory, I don’t think of obedient suffering.  Actually, I am not sure I ever think of obedient suffering.  I don’t know that I knew that was something we were called to.  I mean, I guess if I really think about it I have heard that we are called into suffering with the Lord, but it is not something I think about a lot.

As I write that I am thinking how lucky I am that I don’t think about suffering a lot.  I know a lot of people that suffer daily.  They have chronic pain that they can’t escape from, or they are suffering from anxiety on a daily basis.  I am thankful that I am not suffering on a daily basis.  I pray for everyone that is suffering.  I think this word of prophecy puts suffering into a whole new light.  The Lord says that His glory and obedient suffering go together.  He said they both give life and both are beautiful.  I am going to be honest with you, I don’t understand this. This is something I will need to ponder and pray about.  How does obedient suffering give life?  How is suffering beautiful?  I know plenty of people that are suffering and it doesn’t feel beautiful to them.  It feels hard, it feel frustrating, it feels overwhelming.  How is it beautiful?  Today is not one of those days where I can give you the explanation that helps you to understand.  I myself don’t understand.  However, I did think it was important to share this word with you because I know some of us needed to hear it.

I guess there are a couple of things we would need to understand to grasp what the Lord is saying in His word.  First, what is His glory?  He is asking if we  can enter into His glory, how can we answer this if we don’t know what His glory is? When looking up what is God’s Glory I found an article Titled What is God’s Glory by Aaron Armstrong, (Click Here for article) that talked about how God’s glory generally refers to three things.  The first is connected to what God does, His actions the world.  The second has to do with God’s reputation.  The third has to do with he beauty of His very being.  When God is calling us into His glory, he is calling us to a deeper understanding of his ways and for us to know and love Him, to point others to the good He has done, and to give thanks to him for how He is working in us and through us for His glory and our good.  If this is what God is calling us to do, then it makes it a little easier to answer the question.  This is definitely something to pray on.  We could ask God if this is what He means by entering into His glory?  I would happily, and I do, seek to understand His ways, I do love Him, I try to point others towards Him, and I do thank Him.  How about you?  Are you trying to seek God’s glory?  Now that you know He wants to share His glory with you, will you allow that to change you?  Will you try harder to seek His glory now that you know He wants to share it with you?

The next part of His statement might be the part where some of us get stuck.  His glory intwined with obedient suffering.  This is perhaps the more difficult question.  When He asks us if we can enter into His glory, we can probably answer yes somewhat easily as it doesn’t require too much from us.  We can seek the Lord, love the Lord, spread His messages and be grateful to the Lord, without a whole lot of action on our part.  We can give ourself grace knowing that we have the desire to enter into His glory, so He will help us.  We aren’t perfect and He knows that so He will help us get to where we need to be.  However, then He asks us, “Can you obediently enter into the suffering that you share with me?”  This is where we pull back, or at least I feel the urge to pull back.  Obediently enter into suffering, no thank you.  Is there some way around this part?  Can I bask in God’s glory without the suffering?  That would be great, but according to this word, no, that is not possible.  The two go hand and hand.  You can’t have one without the other.

So, why are we so reluctant to obediently enter into suffering?  I think that is pretty self explanatory, who wants to suffer?  Suffering is not fun and can be very overwhelming.  I think this is why the Lord gave us the second half of His word.  He didn’t just ask us to enter into suffering and then end there.  He said, “Can you obediently enter into the suffering that you share with me?  Come, come enter in, be not afraid, I am your strength, I am your joy, I am your help.” One thing I just notice when I reread what He said was that He said can you obediently enter into the suffering that you share with me?  He is not asking us to suffer along, He would share in our suffering.  That is not a small thing.  Sometimes we can read a statement and just gloss over it.  It doesn’t really register in our minds.  This is something we should let register.  God will be there with us in our suffering.  He will share in our suffering.  That is something to write down somewhere to help remind you when you are in the middle of suffering.  You are not alone!

Then we get to his last line in the words that He gave us.  Come, come enter in, do not be afraid, I am your strength, I am your joy, I am your help.  Not only is God with us, but he is providing us with strength, joy and help along the way.  I think we all know that God provides us strength when we are suffering, I hope we have all felt that strength at one point or another.  I think we can all agree that He provides us help, this is not really news to us. However, did you know He also provides joy when you are suffering?  If you haven’t felt any joy when you are suffering, you are not alone.  Suffering is hard and finding joy while you are in it is difficult.  The great part is that god is providing the joy, you don’t have to.  You do have to look for it though.  If you seek joy in the suffering you will find it.  God will provide the joy, you just have to look for it.  Maybe you find joy in the friend that brought you a coffee today, or that meeting that got canceled and now you get to have 30 minutes of down time.  Whatever it is, I promise if you start looking for joy in the suffering, God will provide it.  He always keeps His word.

I am going to leave you with God’s words today as I would love for everyone to spend some time talking with the Lord today and asking Him to show you what these words mean for you in your life?  What is He trying to tell you personally with this message?  Yes, God can speak personally to each one of us, with the same message.  It’s amazing and wonderful.  If you ask the Lord, how this applies to you in your specific circumstances, He will answer.

“My children, I desire to share my glory with you.  But my glory and obedient suffering go together.  They are intwined.  Both give life, both are beautiful.  Can you enter into my glory?  Can you obediently enter into the suffering that you share with me?  Come, come enter in, be not afraid, I am your strength, I am your joy, I am your help.”

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, help us to understand how your amazing words to us today apply to our individual lives.  Help us to gain a deeper understanding of what these words mean.  Lord, we love you and we want to enter into your glory and we want to be obedient and yet we don’t really want to enter into suffering. Help us to understand why it is so important to enter into suffering with you.  Help us to not be afraid.  Help us to believe that you will give us strength, help and joy.  If we are already suffering, help us to find they joy you are giving us.  Lord you are amazing, you are so great to give us these words.  It is amazing that you are still showing up after all these years and after all we have done.  We love you so much and are so grateful for all you do for us.  We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus’ holy name, Amen

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!

  • So Close

    So Close

1 Samuel 23:26-28 “ Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. David was hurrying to get away from Saul, while Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to capture them. 27 Then a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come; for the Philistines have made a raid on the land.” So Saul stopped pursuing David, and went against the Philistines; therefore that place was called the Rock of Escape.”

Father Mike talked about this verse the other day on Day 114 of the Bible in a Year Podcast and I thought it was such a great message that I wanted to pass it along to all of you that may or may not be listening to that podcast.  If you are not listening, can I just take a second to say you really should be.  It is such a great podcast.  I like it so much because I am not only getting the Word of God every day, but I am also getting an explanation of it from someone who knows far more than I do.  It gives me such a better understanding not of just the verses he talks about that day, but of the whole Bible in general.  Also, every time we enter into a new time period Father Mike invites Jeff Cavins onto the show, who has also studied the Bible extensively and has written number Bible studies.  Jeff introduces us to each new time period and he tells us what is significant about that time period and what to look out for while we are listening.  It’s so informative.

Ok, back to today’s verse.  In the verse today David is running from Saul.  It turns out that the two armies aren’t actually that far apart.  David is on one side of the mountain and Saul is on the other.  Saul has actually been chasing David for awhile at this point but God has not delivered David into Saul’s hands.  Saul and his army were gaining on David when a messenger came to Saul saying that he had to go defend his land from the Philistines who were raiding it.  David was safe once again.  I wonder if David knew just how close he was to being caught?  This is something that we can’t usually keep track of.  We can keep track of all the times God got us out of the middle of a bad situation.  We can thank Him for healing us when we were sick.  We can thank Him for helping us to find a job after being without one for so long.  We can thank God for all the ways that He helped us when we really needed it.

However, what about all the times He saved us from the trouble before we got into it?  How do we thank Him for that, when we didn’t even know about?  I wonder how many times God has saved each one of us from things that we didn’t know about.  I wonder how many times He prevented something bad from happening, or prevented us from getting sick.  God is working all the time and in every detail of your life.  There will be times, probably many times, when God will give you the strength to make it through a really difficult time.  There will be times when He thinks it is necessary for you to go through the hard time so that you can grow stronger and deepen your faith.  There will be times when you will need to go through the difficult situations to grow in perseverance and resilience.  There will also be times when God saves you from ever having to go through the difficult situation.  These are the times that we don’t know about.  This could have happened three times in your life and this could have happened a thousand times in your life.

We have no idea how many close calls we have had.  I read a story once, I can’t remember what book it was in, and it was about someone who got a strange feeling in the middle of the night that he needed to drive over to a friends house and pray for his wife.  His friend was out of town and he had no idea why he had this feeling.  He drove over to his friends house and prayed for an hour or two in his car in front of his friends house.  Neither one of them know what he was praying against.  There wasn’t anything bad that happened that night and so they are thankful for that.  Would something have happened if he hadn’t been there praying?  Only God knows the answer to that question.  Maybe one day in heaven we will see our lives played out and we will be able to see all the things God protected us from.  Until then we will just go on, obliviously unaware of how close we sometimes come to danger.

Even though we don’t know all the ways that God protects us from things, it doesn’t mean we can’t thank Him.  We can thank God for all the ways He protects us on a regular basis.  We don’t have to know exactly what He is doing to know that He is doing something.  We know we are safe and we are provided for and that is worth a lot of gratitude.  God doesn’t need our thanks, and yet He sure does appreciate it when we acknowledge all He does for us.  I know that God appreciates when we show our gratitude because it gives us an example of it in the Bible.  In Luke 17 Jesus stops along the way to heal 10 lepers.  Afterwards only one of the lepers comes back to say thank you.  In Luke 17:17-19, “Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?  Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”  Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”  Don’t be like these lepers.  Be grateful for all that God is doing in your life.  Thank God for all that He is doing, all the things you can see and all that you can’t see.  You have no idea how close you might have been to being captured just as David was.

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, we are so grateful for all the ways you protect us and provide for us.  Lord, we have no idea how many times we were on the edge of something scary and you pulled us away from that edge.  We thank you Lord.  Lord, help us to be more grateful.  Help us to express our gratitude more. Help us to be the one out of the ten that comes back and says Thank you!  We love you Lord, you are truly amazing.  You do so much for us and we are so grateful.  We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus’ holy name, Amen!

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!

  • Believe You Are Forgiven!

    Believe You Are Forgiven!

John 8:34-36 “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin.  The slave does not continue in the house for ever; the son continues for ever.  So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

The reason I thought this would be a good one to talk about today is because we are still in the Easter season.  We just celebrated Jesus dying on a cross for our sins and then rising again.  We are all pretty excited right now because we know that Jesus rose from the dead.  We know that He did not just die on a cross that day and that was the end of the story.  He rose again.  He came back and ministered to His people and then when He went to sit at His Father’s right hand, He sent us the Holy Spirit to be with us and to help us.  I have talked about the power of the Holy Spirit a few times last week.  Today I want to talk to you about Jesus dying on a cross for our sins and what that really means.  We know that Jesus died on a cross so that our sins would be forgiven.  We all understand this when we are celebrating Easter.  We understand this enough to explain it to others.  I feel as though we all get in on some level.  Yet, I feel as though we have a hard time remembering it when it comes to thinking about our own sin.

It seems to me this happens a lot with the things we read in the Bible or the things we know to be true.  We know them, we believe them, and yet somehow we struggle to apply them to our lives.  We think we are somehow exempt from them.  As if Jesus died on the cross to forgive others sins, but not our sins.  If He knew how bad our sins were, surely He would have changed His mind.  Do you ever think like this?  Maybe you have never consciously thought these things.  However, do you ever have a hard time forgiving yourself?  Do you ever go to confession, confess your sins, and then keep holding on to them?  If you do, you would not be alone.  I think this is a common struggle.  We hand our sins over to God to take care of, and yet we still hold onto them also.  What this verse above is saying is that if the Son makes you free, which He did by dying on a cross, then you will be free indeed.

The way I heard it explained once is that when we are holding onto our sins we are thinking we know better than God.  Jesus told the disciples in John 20:23 “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”  Jesus is telling the disciples that they have the power to forgive sin and yet, we go to confession, we confess our sins and then we still hold onto them, we still let them have power over us.  Why is this?  I don’t think we are intentionally thinking that we are smarter than God.  I don’t think we think are intentionally trying to offend God.  We just struggle to believe that our sins are forgiven that easily.  What I don’t think we realize in the moments after confession is that it wasn’t easy.  God sent His only son to walk among us so that He could be sacrificed for our sins.  That could not have been easy.  What Jesus went through on the cross was not easy.  It seems a little too easy when we go to confession and then come out 5 min later and our sins are forgiven.  However, that is not why our sins are forgiven.  Our sins are forgiven because God sent His only Son to die on a cross and because Jesus said yes to God’s will instead of His own.

I know it can be hard to believe that your sins are forgiven.  I know it can be hard to let those sins go.  We feel as though they deserve some sort of punishment.  We feel as though we need to do more to make up for them.  I get it.  I think we have all been there at one point or another.  We all have feelings of unworthiness.  We all feel at times like Jesus died for most sins, but surely He didn’t know I was going to do this.  Jesus knew.  God knew.  That is the reason He sent His son.  Those sins that you don’t think Jesus knew about, He did.  Do you remember in Luke 22:44, it says, “In his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.”  I imagine this is when Jesus was thinking of all of those sins.  All those sins that we worry won’t be forgiven.  Jesus knew about them before you even did them.  Jesus went into this sacrifice with open eyes.  He was fully God.  He knew all that we would do and He still chose to die for us.  So, why are we still holding onto our sins?  Why aren’t we accepting this sacrifice?  Why aren’t we accepting this gift from our Heavenly Father?

This verse says, ““Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin.  The slave does not continue in the house for ever; the son continues for ever.  So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”  Lets all decide, right here and now that we will not be a slave to sin any longer.  Lets decide to accept the freedom that Jesus is offering us.  The freedom He gave up so much for, the freedom he endured so much suffering to win for us.  Let us not turn away from that freedom.  Let us not refuse to accept the freedom that He is so freely giving us.  “If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, help us to release all the guilt from our sins.  Help us to accept that Jesus died for our sins, yes our sins.  Help us to not hold onto them.  Lord, please heal whatever needs to be healed so we can accept this gift you have given us.  Help us to be free and no longer be a slave to our sin.  Give us the strength we need to rise above our sin and feel the forgiveness that you are offering.  We love you Lord, we are so grateful that you send your only son down to die for our sins.  You are truly amazing and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus holy name, Amen.

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk Boldly With Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!

  • Be Strong and Courageous

    Be Strong and Courageous

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Do you ever wish things were as easy at they seemed.  Be strong and courageous, that seems pretty easy.  I can do that.  I can do that right up until I can’t.  I can do that when things are going my way.  I can do that when my kids are nice and safe.  I can do that when my marriage is going great.  I can do that when my husband’s job is nice and secure.  I can do that when our health is great.  Then there are the other times.  How can I be strong and courageous when we find out my husband has testicular cancer?  How can I be strong and courageous when we find out my husband lost his job?  What about when our children are sick, or unsafe?  What about when are marriage is falling apart.  How does one be strong and courageous when things are in turmoil and you don’t know what way is up?

This verse says, “Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”  This verse shows us that the Lord knows us, He knows our heart.  He not only tells us not to be afraid, but he tells us not be be terrified.  That is what many of us feel when we are faced with the unknown.  And who could blame us, the unknown is terrifying.  It is scary when you find out that a loved one has a disease that has claimed the lives of so many.  I know there are many different kinods of cancer and some are more curable than others.  However, anyone that hears their loved one has cancer, they are terrified.  They don’t wait to hear any details.  Just the word cancer brings up all these scary feelings, for those that have it and for those whose loved one has it.  It is similar with all the other things I mentioned.  You are terrified when you are unsure about your child’s safety, and when your marriage is falling apart.  It is terrifying to be losing your job unexpectedly and not have a plan, especially if you have a wife and kids to take care of.  So, if all these things are terrifying, and God knows it, why is He telling us not to be afraid?

The Lord is telling us not to be afraid because even though it may feel terrifying and we may feel very alone, we are not alone.  He is there with us.   God never leaves our side and He never forsakes us.  I looked up the word forsake, which I find myself doing a lot while writing these episodes.  I find it really helps me understand the verses better if I know the actual meaning of the word, not just kinda know what it means.  Does that makes sense?  Do you ever find that you know what some words mean, either from past knowledge, or from context, but if you were asked to give a definition, you are not sure you could?  Forsake was one of these words for me.  The actual definition of the word is abandon.  God will never abandon us.  He is always with us from before our conception until after our death.  We can count on that.  He is with us whether we can feel Him or not.

How does knowing this help us to be courageous and strong?  Knowing this helps us because if we know that God is always with us we can lean in and rely on Him when we don’t have the strength.  I have talked about my prayer group before and how we create these bookmarks each month from all the words that have been given to us throughout the meetings.  The one we discussed at today’s meeting goes really well with this verse.  Here is what it said, “My little ones, when you feel that your cup is empty and you have nowhere else to go, call me, talk to me, sing to me, call out love to me, and I will fill that cup to overflowing. In my Name is your refuge, your courage. In my Name is all the power that you need to go on each day with all you do. In my Name alone you will find comfort, rest, courage, love, mercy poured out upon you by me, just for your calling on my Name, Jesus. Go and spread my love to one and all. Fear not to move forward in my love, my joy and my power. Love is meant to be shared. As I love you so must you love others. I am always with you.”  Let me read that one more time.  This goes so perfectly with this verse.  God is telling us once again to not be afraid and to go forth with courage.

God is telling us right here what we need to do to go forth with courage.  We just need to call upon His name.  We don’t need to do a million things, we don’t have to be perfect enough, we don’t have to be holy enough.  In His name is our refuge, and our courage.  You may not feel as though you have enough courage to make it through all the uncertainty, but God has more than enough.  All the courage you need is found in His name.  Just call upon Him.  I will make sure to put those words from our Lord, in the episode summary so you can take a look at them because I am sure when each one of us reads it, we will all see different things.  The exact words you need to hear today are different from the ones I need to hear but they are all contained in this message.  Even in that first line it is showing us God is not expecting us all to do the same thing.  He is sayin, call me, talk to me, sing to me, whatever works best for you, just call on the Lord’s name, any way that you know how.  He is not picky.  He is not looking for perfection.  That is something we place on ourselves and it gets in the way of what He is calling us to.  The message also says, “In my name is all the power that you need to go on each day with all you do.”

Everything we need is found in Him and only in Him.  You can search elsewhere, we all do.  We look to our friends and family for strength, we look to the internet, we look to the world, we look to TV and movies, we look everywhere for the strength and power we need to get through our day and yet we don’t find it.  We will never find what we are looking for out there.  We need to look within and we need to turn our eyes to God.  He says it right here in this message to us, “In my name alone you will find comfort, rest, courage, love, and mercy poured out upon you by me.”  Take a minute and think about it.  Can you name one other thing that can provide you all of that?

There are still going to be uncertain times in your life.  There will still be times when you get terrifying news.  Hopefully, you can now face that news with a little more courage and strength knowing that when you feel weak, terrified, afraid, uncertain, you can call upon Jesus’ name and the Lord will give you all the strength, courage, love, comfort, rest, and mercy you need.  You can be strong and courageous, not because you are strong on your own, but because God is strong and He will hold you up when you can’t stand.  You can be strong because God will never leave you or forsake you.  He is always there and if you ever need His strength or His power it is only one call away.

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, you are amazing and we are so grateful that you never abandon us.  I know we give you plenty of reasons to go and the fact that you stick around and you love us anyway is something we can never thank you enough for.  Lord, help us to call on you.  Help us to know you are there.  Help us to stop looking in all the wrong places for our strength and our courage.  Help us to turn to you at the first sign of trouble instead of as a last resort.  Lord, we are so sorry that we do that.  We are sorry we seek you last.  Help us to seek you first.  You are so amazing.  You give us so much and we are so grateful.  We love you Lord and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus’ holy name, Amen!

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you on Monday.  Have a blessed weekend!

  • The Power Within

    The Power Within

Mark 4:39 "He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”

Man, how great would it be to have Jesus right there with you in the storms?  I know he is always with us in the storms, but I mean right there sitting next to you.  So that you can see Him and hear Him stand up and yell at the storms in your life to shut up and behave.  Wouldn’t that be amazing?  I feel as though it would make it so much easier to trust that He was there if we could see Him.  If we could hear his voice.  Think about how hard it is to see in a storm.  Particularly if you are on a boat as these men were.  I can just picture the boat being thrown about on the water.  I can picture it being so dark and the rain coming down so heavily.  This may not have been the case in this circumstance as it does not mention rain.  However, there are all different types of storms that we go through in our lives.  Some are worse than others.  Maybe it wasn’t raining this particular storm, but the winds were blowing and the waves were rising.  The people on this boat were very concerned.  Then with very few words, Jesus calmed the storm.  He rebuked the winds and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” and everything was completely calm.

Can you even imagine this?  Can you picture the storms in your life ending as quickly as they started?  Wouldn’t it be so nice to just speak a few words and everything calms down?  Did you know that you actually do have that power?  Jesus gave us the power to rebuke our enemies, to chases away evil and to worry no more.  We just have to accept that power and then use it.  You have the power to rebuke all evil that comes into your life.  You can close the door and not let it in.  You can chose to bind all evil and send it to the foot of the cross.  But first, you have to believe that you have that power, you have to know that you have that power.  Maybe no one ever told you about this before.  If this is the first you are hearing about this, then I am glad you are listening to this episode.  In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, which if you are Catholic, usually happens when you are a baby and then again when you make your confirmation.  If you are not Catholic it happens, when you are baptized into your church, or when you ask for it.  There are many ways to be baptized in the Holy Spirit.  If you want more information on that, reach out, I would be happy to give you all the information you need.  When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, “the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you.” Romans 8:11.  I remember the first time I heard this I was truly in awe.  Think about that for a minute.  "The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you.” I don’t think we have any idea how much power we have living inside of us.  We feel weak and we feel helpless when we are in a storm.  We wish we could do something and yet what can we do, we are weak, we are powerless in this situation.  This is a lie from the enemy and we buy it hook line and sinker, every single time.  Oh, how amazing it would be if we all could realize the power we have living inside of us.  Imagine how afraid the enemy would be if we knew how great this power was.

There are some that know how great this power is.  Do you know anyone that has been faces with incredible pain and suffering and yet they seem to still have joy?  Do you know anyone that seems to be faced with storm after storm and yet has beat incredible odds and was pretty calm and joyful throughout?  Do you wonder what their secret is?  Do you wonder how they can be so calm, in the face of so much uncertainty?  I will tell you their secret right now.  They know the power they have inside of them.  Is it their power, no.  Are they powerful on their own, no.  They are powerful because they have the power of the Holy Spirit, the same Spirit that brought Jesus back from the dead.  They know that even if the seas get rough, the winds blow and the waves pick up, they have the power to rebuke the wind and tell the waves to calm down.  They step out in faith and calm the storms because they know they are capable.  Not through their own strength but through the strength of the Holy Spirit.  You have this strength too.

Does this mean that once you know this, things won’t ever be tough again.  Nope.  Does this mean that you will never worry when things get hard.  nope.  You have this strength and this power so that you can use it.  You will be tested and will need to call upon this power.  So, if knowing this doesn’t help me stay out of the storm, why is it important that we know this?  Because once you know you have the power to rebuke the evil that wants to enter your life, then you are able to use this power.  If you don’t know that this power is lying dormant inside of you then you won’t call upon it.  You will feel helpless in situations when you don’t know what to do.  When situations feel too big, like the storm in the verse for today, you may feel weak and helpless.  However, if you know you have this power inside of you then you can stand strong and face the storm with a peace and a joy because you know that you are not helpless.  You can stand in this power and you can tell the evil to leave.  You can refuse to let the evil into your mind or your heart.  You can rely on the spirit that lives inside of you to calm your mind and your heart.

If you are looking for calm in the storm, be that calm.  Call upon the power that is already inside of you.  Call upon that power to rebuke any evil that comes your way.  Call upon that power to help you refuse to believe the lies of the enemy.   Call upon that power to be strong.  When you don’t know what to do in a situation, Pray.  It may feel like you aren’t doing anything.  I have heard many people say, all I can do is pray.  Praying is not a little thing.  Prayers are so very powerful.  Again,  the idea that you are not doing anything except praying, is something the enemy wants you to believe.  He wants you to believe that praying isn’t a big deal because even he knows how powerful prayers can be.  Once people realize that they have the power of the Holy Spirit inside of them, and that praying is the most powerful they can do in any situation, they will be unstoppable.  Their prayers will shoot like a rocket to heaven, straight to the ears of God.  I know God hears all or our prayers, but I think if we all knew the power of our prayers, if we all believed in the power of our prayers, the enemy would be shaking in his boots.

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, I pray that you reveal to all those listening how truly powerful their prayers are.  Give them a glimpse as to how much you love to hear them pray.  Lord open their eyes to the power of the Holy Spirit that is living inside of them.  If anyone listening doesn’t have the Holy Spirit living inside of them I ask that you place that desire upon their hearts.  Lord, you are so truly amazing.  The fact that you would even give us the Holy Spirit is beyond words.  Your love is unending and we can’t even comprehend what that means.  You have given us so much and we are not worthy.  We are so grateful Lord.  We love you so much and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!

We have all seen God working in our lives, however, we might not all be aware it is God who is working in our lives.  This is why it is so important we start talking about it more.  The more we share our experiences the more people understand how God works and how much He truly loves us.  If you would be willing to share any experience you have had of how God has worked or is working your life, please email me at [email protected] or just click on the link below.  It won’t take up much of your time and your story could be just the story that someone needs to hear today.  Prayerfully consider sharing.  Everyone has a story and the world needs to hear them.  I look forward to spending time with you again tomorrow and I will have another witness for you next Wednesday.  Have a blessed day!
