  • THE WAITING ROOM
O Jacob, how can you say the LORD does not see your troubles?
O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights?
    Have you never heard?
    Have you never understood?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak
    and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:27-31
Joseph, his fathers' favourite son, Jacob, showed it by making him a coat of many colours to the envy of the other children. Can anyone blame? Him, he was a child of love. The son Rachael, his beloved, bore him after years of waiting. He had a God-given gift. Joseph could dream. The pictures of the future were bright and revealed that he would someday be great and all around him would have to bow. His brothers and father did not find his dreams funny, so rather than receive guidance, Joseph got reprimanded. He was sure there was something wrong, so he dreamt some more. This time, his dream landed him in trouble. The plot was simple, get rid of him, no, kill him, and then, there would be no chance of his dream assuming life. God was in the mix; the brothers did not come to a consensus, ended up selling him off as a slave and lying to their father that he had been killed.
What now, from prince to slave just because of a dream? From our vantage position, we see that Joseph's dream was God's idea, but the time was not yet, so a period of waiting was necessary. His grandfather had been told his offsprings would be slaves for four hundred years in the land of Egypt, and then they would. Be brought back to their land. God had a plan, and the man thought he had an idea. The merchants sold. Israel off to Potiphar, who had a loose wife who only saw Joseph as an object of her lust. He lands in prison for refusing madam—some more wait time. God is still working out His purposes. Josephs story continues, but I know you get the drift.
Like Joseph, you had a dream, a vision, a prophecy, and you were over the moon. The future was glorious, but the present is bleak. I mean, there is a gulf between you and the promised land, and it is turning out to be so dark you need divine assistance.
What do you do when you have reached the end of yourself?
    Isaiah 50:10
Who among you fears the LORD
    and obeys his servant?
If you are walking in darkness,
    without a ray of light,
    trust in the LORD
    and rely on your God.
What should be your reaction when your best seems not good enough? Stand!
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:13
Waiting is not for the faint hearted. Waiting is for the brave, the strong and the trusted. Wait my dear friend, your God is cooking something delish and it has your name written all over it.
    Shalom!

  • WHEN GREATNESS MEETS PREPARATION
    WHEN GREATNESS MEETS PREPARATION
The patriarch needed to ensure his boys were all right on the battlefield. He had some nudging that he did not quite understand how to interpret them. He knew God was about to do something that involved his household. He could not quite place it, so he decided to ask after his boys. That was the least he could do under the circumstances. He sent another boy, the youngest and the shepherd to take some food to his older brothers and ask after their welfare. The nation was at war, and his sons were warriors on duty. At least from the report, he would know what was going on.
The Israeli army gathered every morning, in the valley of Elah. The Philistines had been a huge problem, and they had no clue how they were going to get out of the dilemma in which they found themselves. Every time the Philistines came close, the Israelites retreated in fear and dread of the enemy. Oh, that God would send salvation they prayed! Many hearts were faint. The King was proffering no solution, and the enemy was not relenting.
Dave was on a mission to take bread to his big brothers and inquire after their welfare, was his only brief. He had a sense of destiny and felt an inner nudge that this was a life-changing trip. It was such a simple errand, yet he felt the pull of destiny. Remember the prophet had visited a while ago pronouncing him God’s chosen. What was the essence of the oil if there was no throne? It was all a puzzle, but he still had an errand to run.
Big brothers, men of war, trained for battle but not battle-ready! What is the purpose of the stature if all it would do was impress? No sense of destiny! They were small boys in big boy bodies. All there was to dream about was to be in the army of Israel. The king had all the sophistication and the armoury, but his heart was feeble. How do you fight and win when you already lost within?
The Philistines, Israel's sworn enemy, needed to show again that they were more powerful; their primary weapon – intimidation! Their point’s man was a giant well-trained soldier, fully equipped and ready to take the spoil. Unknown to him, though, God had ordained the day as a day of whooping for the enemy.
God, the master strategist, able soldier, Captain of the host had his plan: 'humiliate the enemy.' Dave showed up behind the battle lines, heard the pronouncement by the infidels. Felt the fear and dread in his people and the revolt in his being. Did his people not know who they were? Were they not in tune with who was in charge? Why fear who was obvious mincemeat?
You wonder how he knew! Nobody defied God Almighty and went scot-free. They usually left with a whopping and that one would be the latest. Why were his people so blind? Did they not understand that they were covenant people?
He asked a few questions and purpose took the front stage. He offered to go forward, and big brother challenged him. His reply sounded to me, something like this; Are you so blind you cannot see this is God’s opportunity to prove Himself? Do you think this is about you? This fight is truly about who is Lord. And God must be put back on the throne of the people’s heart and as the nation’s God. There is a purpose; people open your eyes!
The King got intimated that a young lad boy was asking deep questions. He invited him, and you guessed right – he was willing to let the small boy confront what the old battle trained men could not. What was he thinking? Could it be that he thought nothing of Dave's life or he was too beaten down to care? Long story short, the giant was brought low; a whole nation was whooped. The covenant was reinforced, God’s people were free, but they still thought it was about persons. The women sang their song and gave trophies to men; the whole nation was still not getting it!

Mother, you are the very best.
Today again, I praise your courage
    Every day my Mother’s Day.
    Mother, mom, mama, momma, Maami.
    My Mother
It was a Friday, I was driving back home from my mission field, and I felt a very heavy foreboding. I knew something was happening around me just could not put my finger on it.
I tried to sing songs of worship (what I do when I am clueless or in a fix) all that came were funeral songs.
I got home, and another strange thing happened. A bat was in my room. The whole house had nets all around, and so we could not fathom how the bat found its way inside the house. We trapped and got rid of it. I was still perplexed when around 8 pm, I felt as though something left me. Something or someone close to me was making their exit. It was a bizarre, eerie feeling. My mind was still troubled. It was the Easter season. I resorted to meditating on why Jesus came to make the huge sacrifice.
On Sunday afternoon, the president of the fellowship I attended came to visit. He chatted about nothing in particular. I sensed he was aiming at something, mainly because he was asking a lot of questions about my mother. My answers must have made him believe I had an idea she was gone because he took his talk further by singing and in the song he twisted some of the words to ask, "how do you mourn?" I replied; “I mourn in the spirit,” and then I caught myself and asked, what had happened to my mother. He answered and said she had gone to be with The Lord.
I was numb for several days. You see, my last conversation with my mama was her telling me she felt it was time for her to relax and enjoy the fruit of her labour, but she feared her blood pressure issues had other plans.
I rebuked her and even quoted Isaiah saying, ‘you will not plant and another harvest’ (my paraphrase). She did not reply me.
My point, twenty-six years ago, on the 22nd of April 1994, Maami, Josephine Omenogor Ndego left us to join the triumphant saints.
I miss her, remember every day. I sign her name daily before I can access my files. It's my way of keeping her in front of me.
I remember her drive, her ruggedness, her faith and above all, her love.
As I write this, I am very emotional. My mother was an incredible woman. With very little, she produced a lot.
She had tremendous insight and saw through people very easily. She was strong and tender at the same time. Her faith in God was total and daring.
Maami, I salute you. You are a rare mother, indeed.
Thank you for your sacrifice, and thank you for teaching me to hold my head up high no matter what.

  • Light, Light, And More Light
    Light, Light And More Light!!!
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.”… And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day. (Genesis 1:1-19)
The sun has one kind of splendour, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendour. (1 Corinthians 15:41)
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
It was a Friday night, and I had a vigil to attend, and I was to bring the word at the meeting. As I drove up to the premises, my phone rang, and it was my friend calling from North America. There was no way of imagining the light Samuda sparked inside me that night. I decided to sit in the car to talk to her since it was a long-distance call, and I did not want to be distracted. It was 1.00 am my time and 7.00 pm at her end. I asked God to give me a word as I did not want to be without His counsel. Samuda and I talked for over an hour and just when I was about to end the conversation, she said: “You know, I have wanted to share this with you”. The alarm in my spirit went off!
She took me to the Book of Genesis, and we looked through the story of Creation; the chronicling of the events that began the earth and how they concerned us. After the quick study and it all came together for me.
    Below are my gleanings:
    * • The story of Creation began with God as the Creator. Conversely, whatever I am trying to create, I must put God first.
    * • God saw through the formlessness, the darkness and the void; I must see through whatever looks like that in my own life.
    * • The first thing God created was light. Creation must begin with a vision and then be followed with a mission.
The fact that God created light before any other thing intrigued me in no small measure. My question was: what did the light look like? How do you divide light?
By the time we got to the fourth day of Creation, there were two great lights. My interest in them was that they were given rule – one over the day and the other over the night.
Here's the nugget, if it is night-time, I cannot ask the sun to rule and vice versa for daylight. There is a light for each season and time.
This thought was further amplified by the glories of the different lights as recounted in 1 Corinthians 15:41.
The sun has one kind of splendour, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendour.
I gleaned that all the elements mentioned were sources of light. And they differed from one another in glory. For me to live a fulfilling life, I must deploy my specific light source.
We did have a fantastic time in God’s presence that night. It was a word we all needed, me Samuda and the brethren at the vigil.
Finally, Jesus advised, “… let your light so shine…” (Mathew 5:16a) ...

  • Partial Obedience is No Obedience
    Saul Defeats the Amalekites
One day Samuel said to Saul, “It was the LORD who told me to anoint you as king of his people, Israel. Now listen to this message from the LORD! This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I have decided to settle accounts with the nation of Amalek for opposing Israel when they came from Egypt. Now go and completely destroy the entire Amalekite nation—men, women, children, babies, cattle, sheep, goats, camels, and donkeys.”
So Saul mobilized his army at Telaim. There were 200,000 soldiers from Israel and 10,000 men from Judah. Then Saul and his army went to a town of the Amalekites and lay in wait in the valley. Saul sent this warning to the Kenites: “Move away from where the Amalekites live, or you will die with them. For you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up from Egypt.” So the Kenites packed up and left.
Then Saul slaughtered the Amalekites from Havilah all the way to Shur, east of Egypt. He captured Agag, the Amalekite king, but completely destroyed everyone else. Saul and his men spared Agag’s life and kept the best of the sheep and goats, the cattle, the fat calves, and the lambs—everything, in fact, that appealed to them. They destroyed only what was worthless or of poor quality.
    The LORD Rejects Saul
Then the LORD said to Samuel, “I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the LORD all night.
Early the next morning Samuel went to find Saul. Someone told him, “Saul went to the town of Carmel to set up a monument to himself; then he went on to Gilgal.”
When Samuel finally found him, Saul greeted him cheerfully. “May the LORD bless you,” he said. “I have carried out the LORD’s command!”
“Then what is all the bleating of sheep and goats and the lowing of cattle I hear?” Samuel demanded.
“It’s true that the army spared the best of the sheep, goats, and cattle,” Saul admitted. “But they are going to sacrifice them to the LORD your God. We have destroyed everything else.”
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stop! Listen to what the LORD told me last night!”
“What did he tell you?” Saul asked.
And Samuel told him, “Although you may think little of yourself, are you not the leader of the tribes of Israel? The LORD has anointed you king of Israel. And the LORD sent you on a mission and told you, ‘Go and completely destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, until they are all dead.’ Why haven’t you obeyed the LORD? Why did you rush for the plunder and do what was evil in the LORD’s sight?”
“But I did obey the LORD,” Saul insisted. “I carried out the mission he gave me. I brought back King Agag, but I destroyed everyone else. Then my troops brought in the best of the sheep, goats, cattle, and plunder to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal.”
    But Samuel replied,
“What is more pleasing to the LORD:
    your burnt offerings and sacrifices
or your obedience to his voice?
Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft,
and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.
So because you have rejected the command of the LORD,
he has rejected you as king.”

  • Signposts on the Way
The sign read; “Beware, Land Mines on site.” I walked gingerly on. I knew I was on the right path. My guide made sure I understood the instructions, and I promised I would be careful to read the signposts and obey them to the letter.
It was getting dark, and even though I had my camp light, it was nothing compared to daylight. My guide warned me not to presume I knew what I was doing as the site could be very dangerous.
As I was pondering whether to put my foot on the huge stone or navigate around it, I heard the familiar voice (Dad had told me that even if he was not physically present, he would send me a guide who would let me into everything I needed to know).
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying; This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. ( Isaiah 30:21)
I paused to listen, and he said; "sit down, I have a few things to tell you."
I took my seat on the large boulder, reached into my backpack, and brought out my pen and notebook. (It is not my first time of receiving instructions like that and I have come to cherish those moments.)
He began the instructions with a question, "I hope you have not stood as a guarantor for anybody's debts?"
My response was that I had done so for my best friend. She desperately needed bank loans to bail her out of an unfortunate predicament. She ordered goods that ran into millions of dollars, and they got seized by the customs. The goods were not contraband, but they were too close to expiry, and according to the law, those were not acceptable. Her business was adversely affected, and she ran the risk of going under. All I did was secure her loan with the bank. As far as I was concerned, I was rescuing a friend from drowning.
"My son, you just walked into a trap, you have been on this journey for a couple of days now. I thought we agreed that you would read the signposts and abide by what they said"
"I did but did not notice anyone that spoke explicitly guaranteeing loans for others."
"what if your friend is not able to repay the loan? What do you think will happen, who do you think will be indebted?'
I had not thought of it like that before, but now that he was bringing it up, I suddenly became afraid.
"Son, indebtedness makes a slave out of you, and believe me, it is a ruthless slave master. Do whatever is in your power to stay out of his grip."
"All I did was guarantee my friend's loan!"
“No son, you did a lot more than that. You put your life on the line, do you not know that money is what you get in exchange for your time and time is life?"
"That simple signature on the piece of paper secured your bondage, and for your sake, I pray it is not for life. "
"Was I supposed to let my friend drown when I could help?'
"No, do you not know that securing a loan is the same as you borrowing?'
    "So, what should I do?"
"Run to your friend, beg him/her to release you. Get out as fast as you can. Escape like a bird running out of a snare or the deer out of the hunter's range. Next time, only give what you can afford, do not attempt to spend money that does not belong to you (that is what you do when you borrow money. It belongs to someone else)"
Lesson learned, I made to leave, and I was directed to go by the trail that I would not have chosen if left alone.
Some five yards in, there was a sign: "ANTS PARADISE...Stop and learn."
What can the ant have to teach a human being? " just watch them," I heard the voice say.
"The ant has a thing or two to teach the lazy man. Just think it is small, has no leader, no chief, no ruler. Yet it knows to store up food in summertime. It knows that weather conditions in winter would be adverse, so it prepares both food and shelter for the time it cannot go out in search of food. Tell the lazy man, if he does not get out of the bed, he would surely end up in lack and want".
"Tell liars to stop peddling wicked lies. Tell them to stop all the evil plans. If they refuse, they will be the casualty...

  • Happy Sunday
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 2: 42-47
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:17-20
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colosians 3:16-17
Today is sunday; I hope you will go to church or at least stop to acknowledge God and consider His creation. I hope you will show up with something to cheer, encourage, bless, lift someone. Pray for the world you live in; ask that God's kingdom come and His will be done in your life and others around you. Let God speak to your heart, let Him fix your concern, learn some more about him and let Him equip you to take your place in His kingdom. Let Him send you to the world. The world we live in right now needs a saviour, be His agent, be eyes to the blind, feet to the lame, feed the hungry and clothe the naked. Bind the broken and help the helpless. Happy Sunday, my friend.

  • Stay generous
Stay generous, and no door of goodwill shut against you.
Before I go, let me tell you a little story. Notice that we have never run out of foodstuff in the house. There is a back end to that; when I was much younger, I used to share my food with one destitute older woman that lived not too far away from our house. I saw she lived alone and she was old. So, I would deliberately ask for a large portion so I could split my food in two and give her the other half. When visitors came to our house and gave me money, I would take part of it to that same woman. One day, after I handed over the food to her, she told me she had something to give me. I did not believe her because I knew she was poor. What could she possibly have? She asked me to kneel so she could pray for me. She said a lot of things in the prayer, but I remember only some of them. She prayed that I would never be stranded in life, that my generation would not know poverty. She prayed that my storehouse will never be empty and that I would always find help. Son, I am sure you can testify that God answered her prayers and did for us much more than she asked.
She died a week after that incident, but to me, she remains alive because I see the effect of her prayers every day of my life.
I could tell you many more stories, but I believe you have noted the life lessons in the ones I told you already, I would end this letter by using my mother's word: 'a word is enough for the wise.'

  • Dear son
    Hello son,
I trust that you are well. Through the years, I have watched you become a man of courage. I watched you my little bow-legged one become a fine gentleman. You always held a promise, but never in a million years could I have imagined where God would take you. You never cease to amaze me.
You know, thinking back to when you were a little lad, I praise our God for His mercies in all our lives. I know you are all grown, and you can now hold your own, but I am still the parent, your mother at that, and I do have a few words for you. I think about how far we have all come as a family, and, thought it proper to share some of life's nuggets with you.
    1. Love is the strong and overpowering force that can take on kings and kingdoms. It covers a multitude of sins and makes the world go around. It is a must-have in your life's journey.
    2. Your loyalty must first be to God and then to man. I expect by now, you would have formed your value systems. Make sure they are rooted in God's counsel. You would need to stay true to who and what you believe. Earn a reputation for being a good friend, husband/wife, neighbour. You will discover it holds the keys to many good things in life.
    3. Trust in God with all your heart. He knows and loves you more than you can imagine. I have always told you that there are many things you do not know. Trust God to help you and to show you the 'what and where and when' of your life.
    4. Never assume you know until you have God sign off on an issue. Study life, and you will see that outside of God, there are too many complications. Stay with God; He knows how to simplify the complexities of life.
    5. Show God you are in awe of him by honouring him. Give Him your best, give Him your first, let Him take first place, and watch your life become a wonder. Follow God's leading, and you will live Heaven on earth, and believe me, life can be cheap if you know what to do.
    6. Anger and bitterness are the indulgences of fools. Their path is a sure way to a short and miserable life. Do you know that it has been discovered that many diseases have their root in bitterness ( You should know, you are a doctor)? Do not let it have you. You are far too precious, and your destiny too great to let some silly vice have you.

What I have to say to you today would interest you much. It is of utmost importance, and it will benefit you if you give it the attention it deserves. Treat it like your life depends on it because, in truth, it does. Please give me your rapt attention and remember my words. If you set your heart to wisdom, life will come cheaply to you. You will glide through, and the world will wonder what stuff you are made of.
On the contrary, if you are not wise and do not make an effort to understand the deep issues of life, you will miss out on a lot of things. When you make your search for wisdom a pivot issue, you will be rewarded with uncommon knowledge of God. When you speak, your wisdom will make the wise of your time look foolish. The depth you encounter will be unusual to men. All made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity.
…but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:24)
Make up your mind to be friends with God, and He will make you the envy of your generation. You will be endued with wisdom and made a master over your world as you manifest His power.
In your search, you will discover, all of life’s needs are met only in God through Jesus Christ, His Son. Jesus left heaven, came as a man so that He could show us the way back to God. When He was here on earth, He embodied knowledge, and He displayed a full understanding of the Father.
Being with God has tremendous benefits; you will not need to worry about being protected because He will be your security. He makes sure that angels are on guard to make you safe in all your ways, and because His angels have charge over you, you will never be on the wrong end of deals.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; (Psalms 91:11)
Loyalty to God protects and preserves you. It ensures that you are a very important personality, with the hosts of heaven guarding you and giving you uncommon insight into life issues. You learn to appreciate the hand of wisdom on your life, you will discover many truths, and your heart will be filled with immeasurable peace as you will always be satisfied.
I am sure you have noticed that the wicked one does not feature at this level. Trust me; there is a place you will get to in God; you do not have to worry about the devil and his foot soldiers.
With God, safety is sure. Your realm is fortified from every onslaught. Try all they want; they will not be able to reach you. My friend, wisdom, truly pays.
