Sean preaches on Genesis. For the past 19 months our church has journeyed through the book of Genesis chapter by chapter and verse by verse. In one final sermon we flyover the whole book to ensure we understand its overarching message and how it fits in into the grand story of redemption, pointing us to Jesus Christ. Jacob dies outside the promise land. Joseph's brothers are fearful about retribution. Joseph lives to a ripe old age and dies. On the surface it doesn't seem like this is a good ending to the book of Genesis. But, as we take a closer look we see that even in the face of sin and death, we can have confidence in the future because of good purposes and plans of God. Originally recorded September 18, 2022.

As Jacob plans to head to Egypt to see Joseph after many years, there’s a conundrum: he has to leave the land of promise, which in the past has not gone well for others. But before he leaves, he first draws near to God in worship in a significant place. Pastor Sean will be preaching from Genesis 45:1-28. The evil deeds of others against us, and the suffering that this causes, are agonizing loose ends in our lives. How are we to make sense of them? How can God possibly weave them into what He is doing for His glory and for our good? In Genesis 45 the answer to these perennial questions begins to emerge in a climactic moment in Joseph’s life. As we will discover, our sovereign God, Yahweh, makes even evil deeds serve to establish his glory, and to accomplish our good and gladness in Christ. Of this we can rest assured. Pastor Sean will be preaching from Genesis 43.  Many times in life we wonder if anything will ever change from the same old same old. This was certainly a question for the mess of the covenant family. While Joseph has been in Egypt for years, not much seems to be different with his father Jacob and his eleven brothers. But as Yahweh’s unstoppable providence continues to unfold, much is about to change, giving us hope for ourselves as we submit to God’s redemptive purposes working out in our world. Are we ready and willing to see our resistance to Yahweh’s ways, our fears over His methods, and our puny thinking over His accomplishments give way before His unstoppable providence?
