When I surrendered my heart and desires to Jesus, I went through a deep time of grieving. At the time, I didn’t know if grieving was something I should even do because much of it was surrounding what God didn’t want for me. This is when I started learning about the Holy Spirit being my Comforter. As I started embracing this, I realized He wanted me to take this grief to Him. He wasn’t angry with me for feeling it, and He didn’t want me to shove it down or pretend it wasn’t there.

Right now, each of us is being sustained by something or someone. We continue to tell ourselves if we just had more of _____ or have a better connection with ____, it would finally sustain us. It might even seem to work for a period of time. What often happens, though, is it ultimately leaves us feeling empty.

Who or what are you turning to for sustenance?

For years, I was afraid that I ruined my brain with everything I had looked at and continually thought about. This is a very common fear with the women I talk to. You see, our brains get used to going down the same path. It directs itself along the path it has so easily been taking for so long. It's a well-traveled path, so taking a different route creates resistance. The good news is, with God's help we can create new pathways in our brain. In today's episode, I talk about how I started to see this work in my own life.

What comes to mind when you hear the word "desire"?

Desires can show up in many different ways in our lives. We can try to squelch them, but then they can pop back up again somewhere else.

For years I saw many of my desires as "bad" and something I needed to numb, ignore, or somehow squelch. That didn't work (at all).

I don't think that works for most of us.

Could your desires be telling you something different than you think? 

Porn is created to cause a response in everyone that views it. When it starts to affect someone's attractions, it can cause a lot of fear, shame, and confusion. If this is something that has affected you, you are not alone.
