  • 030 - Biblically Beating Anxiety: Bonus Session - Killing Anxiety

Do you experience anxiety? Obviously, in our modern culture, EVERYONE experiences anxiety on some level. We've just learned to live with and self-medicate it instead of deal with it.

In this 5-part series, you’ll learn what the Bible says about anxiety. You will be equipped with the biblical tools to know where to go, what to know, what to do, and how to be. As a bonus, you’ll learn how to kill anxiety.

Here are the passages for this session:

'For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. '

    2 Corinthians 10:3-5

'Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable #— #if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy #— #dwell on these things. Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. '

  • 025 - Living in the Tension

You can never know freedom if you've never been bound. You can never know healing if you've never been broken. You can never know forgiveness if you've never been hurt. There would be no resurrection if there were no crucifixion. We have to learn to live in the contrasting tension of what is and what we hope for.

In this episode, you'll learn how to live in the tension and learn what it means to actually *follow* Jesus, *walking* in the Spirit.

  • 024 - Illusion vs. Reality

From the moment we are born into this world we are being marketed to. We never have a chance to actually see reality or understand it in order to make our own decisions, because we only see the illusion of what others want us to see, think, feel, and choose. These illusions use fear to create and feed habits, addictions, spending, understanding, and so much more. Industries profit from these illusions and prey on our fears to keep us coming back for more, thinking we're achieving one thing but actually accomplishing the opposite.

If this is true in industries like food, alcohol, cosmetics, health, wellness, and entertainment, it's probably true in religion too. In fact, I know it to be true in our faith, and the enemy is the one to blame.

In this episode, you'll learn how to spot an illusion (lie) from the enemy and see the opposite reality of God's truth. You'll learn a simple action step straight from the Bible to be able to follow the reality of God's truth instead of the illusions of the enemy.

    Here's the passage:

' For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. And we are ready to punish any disobedience, once your obedience is complete. '

  • 023 - Honey in the Rock

This episode gives you a bit of an insight into my Baptist childhood and our Sunday rhythm as a family. From Sunday School to "Bus kids" and worship songs I despise to weird "Christianese" phrases, I talk about it all. By the end I unpack this phrase (also the title of a popular worship song some unnamed people despise): "honey in the rock" found in Psalm 81:16.

    Here's the passage:

'But he would feed Israel with the best wheat. “I would satisfy you with honey from the rock.” '

  • 022 - The Problem with Sacrifice

In John 2, Jesus gets angry and overturns the money changers' tables and drives out everyone and every animal in the temple - on Passover weekend, the biggest festival of the year in Jerusalem. Needless to say, he ruffled some feathers. But I think His anger has just as much to do with us as it did the religious leaders.

    Here's the passage:

'The Jewish Passover was near, and so Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found people selling oxen, sheep, and doves, and he also found the money changers sitting there. After making a whip out of cords, he drove everyone out of the temple with their sheep and oxen. He also poured out the money changers’ coins and overturned the tables. He told those who were selling doves, “Get these things out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace! ” , And his disciples remembered that it is written: Zeal for your house will consume me. , So the Jews replied to him, “What sign will you show us for doing these things? ” Jesus answered, “Destroy this temple, , and I will raise it up in three days.” Therefore the Jews said, “This temple took forty-six years to build, and will you raise it up in three days? ” But he was speaking about the temple of his body. So when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the statement Jesus had made. While he was in Jerusalem during the Passover Festival, many believed in his name when they saw the signs he was doing. and because he did not need anyone to testify about man; for he himself knew what was in man. Jesus, however, would not entrust himself to them, since he knew them all '
