Walking with Jesus with Pastor Doug Anderson Podcast

You and I live in a deceit filled world, no matter where we live, am I right? Sometimes that deceit is further complicated by 'cover-up' and the result is profound heartbreak for people. May I ask, has your heart ever been broken in a deceitful cover-up?  Join me today in one of the most famous cover ups of all time. Yesterday I left you standing with several of Jacob's sons as they had just completed the sale of their younger brother Joseph to a traveling caravan. Did I say SALE? Yes, his brothers actually SOLD Joseph! The caravan travelers bound young Joseph with ropes and dragged him off, going with them to Egypt, where he would be put on the slave trader's block and sold to the highest bidder!

In recent days it's been very hard for me to watch news reports coming out of Afghanistan, how about you? It's not the first time we've seen uprisings in nations that cause people and families in entire villages or cities to run for safety with only the clothes on their backs and their babies in their arms! But oh, it's heartbreaking isn't it? It's terrible enough when outside invading forces attack a country, but when it's internal, people attacking their own fellow citizens, even their own extended family members, oh my that's so difficult to watch, and it's almost beyond understanding! But it's the reality of our world, isn't it?

Jealousy can consume someone's heart to the point it can lead them to attitudes, choices and actions that could destroy their reputation and their lives, am I right?  Jealousy can be among the most destructive of all human emotions, and probably you have been wounded by it at one time or another in your life journey.  We've come today to one of the most famous of all jealousy stories in the Bible...  Have you ever had the privilege of actually 'moving back home', many years after you left your home? Just the word 'home' stirs up some powerful emotions in our hearts, doesn't it? So here's an important question... where is HOME for you? Of all the places you've lived in your life, which one really feels most like 'home', the place of your deepest roots? Why? What makes that place home for you? We're traveling with Jacob who left his home nearly 30 years before in a panic. His brother had been looking to kill him for deceitfully stealing both his birthright and his firstborn blessing from their father Isaac.

Have you ever had an opportunity to return to a place where you had a life changing encounter with God? I don't mean an inspiring prayer time, nor a vibrant worship experience, I mean a powerful encounter with God that actually changed you and maybe even changed the direction of your life? Yesterday we left Jacob and his large family as they were heading down the road toward Bethel with all their belongings. They were following Jacob who was confident God had told him to move and 'settle there'! (Genesis 35:1)
