Love what you do. show notes: Differ from actual episode for better reading experience. this can also be found at my Word Press page. SeanMalloyWrites. Hey everyone, I know it's been a while. It has been kind of busy over here on my side. It's been a rough week and a half between work and family life, it has been real hard for me to get to writing and to my Podcast. I just kind of want to make a quick update to let you know that I've been thinking about about you guys. So I've been listening to a lot of Podcast recently and as always, I listen to Joanna Penn. She definitely is a big influence on me in my writing and learninng about marketing and stuff like that. Her Podcast is about helping writers find their inspiration for writing novels or short stories or screenplays. Whatever it is that calls you to listen to her Podcast. She was just in Saint Petersburg, Florida last week, unfortunately I was unable to make the (NINC) Novelist inc. Conference but I listened to Joanna's podcast about the conference, and basically what she was talking about was doubling down on what you love, and the opportunities of publishing wide. Check that episode out because it is definitely something I would recommend you listen too and if you don't know about Joanna Penn then now's the time to get involved. She's helped me over the last 2 years by listening to her advice and peppered writing guests with loads of marketing and the business of writing tips. To speak toward the love of writing and what you do, it doesn't have to be about writing, it could be any job really. I like to talk about writing since that's what the Walking Writers Podcast is about. There are times where we get so busy with life and all things that we have to do on a daily basis, that we forget about the things that we want to do. The things you love to do seem to take a back seat when priorities are set in place, and I'm saying here that we have to make our writing a priority as well. No matter if your sitting down for five minutes on your lunch break, or you're at a family party and everyone else is playing a game while you write a paragraph or two blog on wordpress like me. I've been thinking more about how to tackle my writing in a post graduate world where life has returned to the hectic, chaotic way of tending to a family and bills. I want to take a different approach to my writing and the Walking Writers Podcast. I wanted to mention in this blog that I've been focusing poetry from poets.org you can follow on Twitter where you can subscribe to their poem-A-day tweet, among a bunch of great poetry that get writers thinking and learning a vocabulary that provides a high quality language. It's a great way to look at sentence structure differently and you don't have to be a poet, you can be a fiction writer, a screen writer, nonfiction writer, doesn't matter. I think it's a good habit to get into to broaden the the aspect of your mind as a writer. If you want to meet other writers, regardless if it's through social media or in person, being a part of the community is key to success for a writer. Nowadays it's hard for me to read all the time. I'll be honest, I don't read as much as I have in the past, but I listen to a book or 2 a week. I don't really classify it as doing actual reding but you know Joanna Penn says on her Podcast that she listens to most of her books, and she classifies that as reading. So, if she's classifying that as reading and comprehending, than take it as you will. I like to physically see the words on the page, but unfortunately the way that to my life is scheduled right now, it's hard to do that. Most people have a busy day-to-day life too. They have kids/ a family/ a full time job that requires their full attention just like mine. Listening to books either through your library or audible is a great way to get the inspiration, vocabulary, and follow a cadence of how a story is told. You know what sounds good and what doesn't, and listening to a story
