Tammie Jo Shults was one of the U.S. Navy’s first female fighter pilots. She later became a Southwest pilot, and in April 2018 she was piloting a flight from New York City to Dallas that experienced a sudden engine failure. The plane was down an engine, and the explosion broke a window – causing the cabin to quickly depressurize. Tammie Jo stayed calm, immediately rerouted the plane, landed in Philadelphia, and even went back to speak with her passengers afterward. It was an honor to have Tammie Jo join me on the Huddle to talk about the experience, leadership, how she’s persevered against offenses, and how we must always “keep our wings level.”

They chatted with Geno who shared his journey with Walmart and the positive impact it has had on his life. Another associate celebrating a long, successful journey with Walmart is Rose from Store 1804 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as she celebrated 30 amazing years with the company. Not far behind were Waymon at Store 376 in Bossier City, Louisiana, on 25 years and Randi from Store 2309 in West Chester, Ohio, who celebrated 20 years with Walmart. Mirror, mirror on the wall, will Bo’s Impossible Question stump them all? Probably not for Carl and Santiago from ACC 6561 in Colton, California, as they answered every question correctly in “Yes or No Way Bo." Shawn from Store 619 in Dayton, Tennessee, gave a shoutout to Wanda in the OGP department as she celebrated her birthday this week. This week we also highlighted Hispanic Heritage Month as Bo and Kirby traveled to Colton, California, for a special event at the Automated Consolidation Center. There the DJs were able to meet with general manager Daniel, who shared how much of an influence Hispanic Heritage Month has had on him. In “What Year Was It,” Hula hoops became a national craze, and we never would know what it was like to be a “Material Girl” just living in a material world — if it weren’t for the birth of this singer. Rose from Store 5154 in Rosemead, California, gave several shoutouts to her team members who all shared birthdays during the same week! When it comes to Bo’s Impossible Question of the Day, one from this week might ruffle your feathers. The question asked: Which is heavier, 100 pounds of rocks or 100 pounds of feathers? Diane from Store 40 in Moberly, Missouri, isn’t taking for granite that she was the first caller to answer Bo’s Impossible Question correctly. However, associates Nathan, Andrew and Tucker were rock stars themselves also calling in with the right answer. Tanika from Store 4434 in Ocala, Florida, one of our Associate Callers of the Day, gave a shoutout to her Academy Trainer Lacy and the rest of the associates at the store. What a gem! Miranda and Team Lead Jaya from Store 3332 in Fulton, New York, gave a big birthday shoutout to their Store Manager Jeff as he celebrated his birthday this week.
