  • Melodies, Memories, and More: A Conversation on Music Therapy

For the first episode of the new year, I have one of my best friends, Shannon O'Hara. Shannon and I go back to high school, and we took part of our school's music department, being involved in choral groups and theatre.  Where I went into the music industry side, she went into music therapy.  She is currently a music therapy intern with The Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine in New York City.  Listen to our conversation as we talk about music therapy as a whole, how it is used to help patients, how music can influence memory, and how Covid has shaped the music therapy field.

  • "That First Step" Part 1

Well, we just about made it, everyone.  2020 is about to conclude in a couple days, and we can do our best to put this year behind us.  It has been difficult on many levels, but I hope there are some take aways you can get from this year.  So, with New Year’s approaching, many people are thinking about their New Year’s resolution- something they want to do or improve upon for the next year.  I wonder how the majority of people did with their resolutions from 2019 going into 2020.  The beginning of a new year is a great time to set new goals and kick start new things; however, any time is a good time if you fully put yourself into something.  My friend Harrison and I got a little head start to the resolution game for 2021.  Harrison and I have started a new blog called “That First Step,” which we will be bringing you content about our first steps in chasing after personal goals.  We have embarked on a 6-month challenge to better and enlighten ourselves in our own individual ways. For Harrison, he has taken up learning languages, specifically working on Spanish, for now.  I decided to improve my physical wellness and mindfulness.  Though we are going after different things, this whole challenge boils down to self-accountability, disciple, determination, resilience, and consistency.  You see, Harrison and I have tried hard to do these things ourselves, but would either become unmotivated, or get caught up with something else.  It’s much easier to go into something if you’re going into it with another person.  That way, we can keep ourselves accountable and on track.  As we go through this process, we will be detailing our experiences in the blog, and sharing other content that may even inspire someone else along the way.  Also, I apart of the whole experiment, Harrison will be joining us on the podcast monthly where we will both talk about experiences each month.  We officially started “That First Step” on December 1st, and though the month is not completely over, we felt it may be a good idea to squeeze our first podcast installment before the year was out.

Thank you for tuning into Walsh Wednesday: The Reflective Series.  This is part 1 of our “That First Step” installments, and without further ado, let’s get into taking those first steps.

  • Interview in Filmworld
Collaboration, communication, and trust are all key elements in any dynamic, and it can be especially found within the making of Micah Khan's "Meetcute on Danceworld."  Dive into this week's episode as we talk about his directorial styles, and how he created his film “Meetcute on Danceworld,” along with producing “Devour: A Short film by Victoria Diana,” and other projects.  Micah and I heavily talk about that process of bringing on the right people, the trust that is forged, and debunking myths about directing.

  • Creating Awareness
(I apologize for uploading, taking down, and then re-uploading, there were technical issues that were presented and needed to be resolved. All should be well now. Enjoy!)
Join us this week as I open up about my own struggles with alcohol, and then talk to representatives with AWARENESS Inc. • A Conversation On Cancer
I think it is safe to say that cancer has touched all of our lives in one way or another.  On this episode of Walsh Wednesday: The Reflective Series, I talk about some of my experiences on how cancer has affected those around me, specifically my friend Liam, my mother, and my aunt Ann.  Later, I get to talk with my friend and colleague Nick Liporace, Senior Community Development Manager with the American Cancer Society in Latham, New York.  Together, we go into the efforts of the ACS during 2020, and what the pandemic means for research and awareness for cancer and other treatments for the future!

  • In Memory of Marvin
Marvin Chavez was one of my best friends for the past 7 years.  He was a ray of sunshine, and was one of the most supportive people I have known.  Unfortunately, Marvin lost his battle with Covid-19 in July of this year.  The grieving process has not been easy for me, my friends, and his family, yet we are all soldiering on.  I have had the desire to do some kind of project in his memory, and I am proud to finally release this for him.  In this episode, I sit down with friends Harvey Burns and Nick Rivera as we look back on our times with Marvin, and all that we had learned from him.
I love you Marvin.  You'll always be my brother.

  • New Directions in Film and New Media
The face of film and new media has changed indefinitely with the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic.  This has let to creators finding unique solutions and exploring various kinds of avenues to reach audiences.  On this episode, I sit down with content creators and good friends Nick Rivera and Brendan Lynch.  Nick Rivera focuses on building a community through video game streaming, podcasting, and music while Brendan is a film maker with credits in small independent projects to notable film companies such as HBO and Netflix.  Both of them have a wealth of perspective to offer, and it is an honor to have them on the show!

  • Modulating to the New Normal
Art solves the existential questions in our life, which helps lead us in the right direction.  But now that the arts are taking a substantial during 2020, a lot of people are thinking, "what now?"
Many people overlook that the music industry is an INDUSTRY.  There are a lot of moving facets to it that keep everything going.  So, I brought on singer/songwriter/publisher Emily Mitchell, working musician Kelly Bird, and audio engineer Sean Wendell to explain their roles in the business.  Besides that, we go into their daily motivations and how they navigate through the obstacles of 2020 on a personal level.
