For the first episode of the new year, I have one of my best friends, Shannon O'Hara. Shannon and I go back to high school, and we took part of our school's music department, being involved in choral groups and theatre.  Where I went into the music industry side, she went into music therapy.  She is currently a music therapy intern with The Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine in New York City.  Listen to our conversation as we talk about music therapy as a whole, how it is used to help patients, how music can influence memory, and how Covid has shaped the music therapy field.

Well, we just about made it, everyone.  2020 is about to conclude in a couple days, and we can do our best to put this year behind us.  It has been difficult on many levels, but I hope there are some take aways you can get from this year.  So, with New Year’s approaching, many people are thinking about their New Year’s resolution- something they want to do or improve upon for the next year.  I wonder how the majority of people did with their resolutions from 2019 going into 2020.  The beginning of a new year is a great time to set new goals and kick start new things; however, any time is a good time if you fully put yourself into something.  My friend Harrison and I got a little head start to the resolution game for 2021.  Harrison and I have started a new blog called “That First Step,” which we will be bringing you content about our first steps in chasing after personal goals.  We have embarked on a 6-month challenge to better and enlighten ourselves in our own individual ways. For Harrison, he has taken up learning languages, specifically working on Spanish, for now.  I decided to improve my physical wellness and mindfulness.  Though we are going after different things, this whole challenge boils down to self-accountability, disciple, determination, resilience, and consistency.  You see, Harrison and I have tried hard to do these things ourselves, but would either become unmotivated, or get caught up with something else.  It’s much easier to go into something if you’re going into it with another person.  That way, we can keep ourselves accountable and on track.  As we go through this process, we will be detailing our experiences in the blog, and sharing other content that may even inspire someone else along the way.  Also, I apart of the whole experiment, Harrison will be joining us on the podcast monthly where we will both talk about experiences each month.  We officially started “That First Step” on December 1st, and though the month is not completely over, we felt it may be a good idea to squeeze our first podcast installment before the year was out.
