This time around BJ, Jeff, and Gary are talking about the 2020 sci-fi horror, “Underwater!” This is a little known movie that flopped at the box office due to various reasons beyond the control of the cast and crew, and Gary wanted to show it some love on the podcast.

Along the way we talk about our failed attempt to record this episode on Christmas Eve, BJ argues that just because something has a monster with a tentacle face doesn’t make something Lovecraftian, Jeff tries really hard to get us to theorize about the biology of the monsters, BJ attempts to explain Deep Ones while staying family friendly, Jeff’s brain glazes over as Gary talks about Warhammer 40K, we talk for a little bit about Epic Fantasy, we talk about how it can be fun to watch bad movies, and BJ and Jeff try desperately to stop Gary from getting in trouble with his wife.

Welcome to the Wandering Tangent Podcast! Today we are holding an EMERGENCY PODCAST SESSION because we REALLY want to talk about the 2023 post-WWII drama that happens to have Godzilla in it, “Godzilla Minus One!”

What’s an emergency podcast session, you ask? Well it’s basically a last-minute scheduled podcast we shoehorned in what is supposed to be an off-week after BJ and Gary bully Jeff into leaving his house to see this movie. Oh, and BJ records it while suffering the tail-end of COVID.

We actually don’t tangent very much on this episode, but along the way we talk about Gary offering his services as a narrator, we opine about the state of modern movies, discuss the movie theater experience, and BJ and Gary react somewhat violently to Jeff launching into another JJ Abrams rant.

Along the way we talk about how people just can’t resist “updating” stories that have worked for over a century, Jeff doesn’t pay attention during the beginning of the podcast….again, a random pizza tangent occurs, Jeff states that they could have been more special effects in this movie, the question is asked: “Is Muppet’s Christmas Carol the best version of A Christmas Carol?”, Gary talks about the saga that was him trying to find the movie, because this is technical a movie about a haunting BJ asks the usual question of “would you live in this house?”, we discuss actors who would have been awesome as Scrooge, BJ vetoes a tangent into economics, we throw shade at the theoretical person who made this episode their first exposure to ‘A Christmas Carol’, we check in to see if Gary has taken the Harry Potter test yet, Gary pledges to watch every single version of ‘A Christmas Carol’ and rank all the Ghosts of Christmas Present (not really), we discuss old high school friends, BJ informs Jeff that he did not do a very good job of being a “closet nerd” in high school, we bring up old D&D inside jokes, and, of course, we have to talk about Star Trek for some reason.

 Happy Halloween everybody! To get in on the spookiness, BJ, Jeff, and Gary are here talk about the 1963 horror movie, “The Haunting”, based on the book “House on Haunted Hill”.

Not to be confused with the 1999 version of the “The Haunting.” Or the 1959 movie “House on Haunted Hill”. Or the 1999 version of “House on Haunted Hill”.

Along the way BJ talks about his re-read of the book, we make timely jokes about the writer and actor strikes (the writer strike ended 2-3 days after we recorded), Gary had a life and wasn’t able to watch the whole movie, the question is asked “Would you live in this house?”, BJ points out the differences between the book and the movie (spoiler alert: he liked the movie more), Gary talks a bit about the Netflix series based on the book, Gary talks about “that one” Lovecraft story where a guy explores an ancient city, we delve into some slight spoilers of the Netflix “Haunting of Hill House” series, and we meander around talking about what we have planned next for the podcast.
