July 12, 2023Parenting & Social MediaLet’s talk about social media. And you're probably thinking what in the world does social media have to do with the war on autism, but it actually has a lot to do with it because social media is so integrated into our lives! And most of us let the things and the perceptions of social media affect how we think about our own lives and families. We have been chosen to walk this path in autism, and it is not going to be Facebook perfect. It is not always going to be Instagram worthy photos. It's not always going to be # best day ever. But what it is, is beautiful and loving and different and ever changing and just as unique as our little ones are. ...more16minPlay
July 07, 2023Daily ToxinsAs I was preparing for this podcast, I was thinking of the all of the daily toxins that we are exposed to and specifically how these toxins relate to autism. I firmly believe that autism is a result of toxic overload. I don't believe that autism is a genetic disorder- I feel that there is a small percentage of individuals who are genetically more susceptible, but overall I do feel that autism is from environmental factors. It is from toxicity, it is from medicines, it's from heavy metals, yeast, mold, disrupted gut Biome and so many things. I really feel that autism is created from all of these factors that come together and create this disorder. Which is why autism is so broad. That's why you see no two autistic children are exactly alike- they each have their own strengths and weaknesses and different behaviors. And that's because they're all resulting from different root causes in toxicity. Therefore, toxicity is very important! We really need to get a good grasp on where the majority of these toxins are coming from, and how to n1. stop the exposure and then 2. prevent further exposure....more25minPlay

June 21, 2023What is the War On Autism?Welcome to episode 1!To kick off this podcast, let's begin with our journey. My son met met his milestones, and he had said momma and babbled and could use a fork and could do play dates, but slowly after his first birthday he lost those skills and regressed. And as a mother, I sort of made excuses for his regression- I thought that maybe I was giving him too much screen time so that’s why he would babble because he was too distracted with the TV. I thought that maybe he forgot how to use a fork because I didn’t give him enough foods that required a fork and on and on. Deep down I had that inkling that this could be autism but I didn’t want to see it. Fast forward a few months (we officially received our medical diagnosis of ASD around his second birthday) after implementing the GAPS diet, functional medicine testing and detox, and therapy, my son is now verbal and showing great signs in recovering from autism. Recovering from autism is a battle. Each area of recovery has it's own challenges and doesn't it feel like a battle every day? But it is a battle we much fight in every area to insure we win this war...the war on autism. WWW.WARONAUTISM.ORGINSTAGRAM: @ALLISON_SMITH_89...more10minPlay
