A time of repentance, self examination, and seeking the Lord. Both these leads up to Tabernacles a time of rejoicing in the Lord.

Trials amidst Judgment brings us into focus with life itself. Fiery trials, Peter says will try you but don’t think that something strange has happened to you. In fact, trials, fiery trials, and judgment all rest and produce repentance and the seeking of God. Of course, this is the positive result of it. Paul said no chastening is going to feel good, my paraphrase. Neither will judgment, just read lamentations. Here the Lord tells Jeremiah that even if Moses and Samuel stood before me yet my mind could not be towrd this people: cast them out of my sight! Set the Watchman describes the warning aspect of the judicial punishment of the Lord upon the nations of men. The best way to defend against such a higher being, i.e. being God is simple. Many ignore him, his Word, and those who give his Word to other. The best defense is to simply ignore things or so they think.
