The Trial of your Faith stands firm in Christ Jesus, who led as an example for us. That Faith in Christ Jesus is our inheritance. Peter says it is “incorruptible, undefiled, that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” -First Peter chapter one verses three through nine is the context for this phrase. This is our firm hope, for the Kingdom of God awaits our arrival! This is our comfort today, especially as the world rocks in trouble from one side of this planet to the other.

I Have Chosen leads the study this week. As we will look at what God has Chosen for His people to do when fasting. Compassion and love instead of stiff-necked religious lifting up their own fake righteousness. The lifting of the head when fasting, posturing their selves to make them look how righteous a thing it is too fast, going without food. All the while nurturing their selves while so many are suffering around them. God wanted his people to help those around them. Jews who suffered, those bound by darkness, and those yoked with wickedness who cannot find peace or joy. To fill the empty bellies, to let the milk of human kindness soothe as a balm of Gilead the souls of the afflicted. It is not to make pretense and lift thyself up as an exalted mountain of righteous ways. Righteous were to understand the love of God and pursue it. In the course of this, healing and rescuing their fellow countrymen from torment and bondage.

I Have Chosen is a phrase which #Isaiah declares of the #Lord that the #truefast for the people is to be. Not just an exercise in futility, but a #workofrighteousness. The fast, the #humbling of the #soul through #abstinence of #food is not just what the Lord wanted. It was to be a true work of righteousness as opposed to #hypocriticalfasting and being seen of men. This section is famous in Isaiah for revealing the true fasting to break the #yokeofwickedness. It is the righteous releasing the #powerofGod through #fasting to undo heavy burdens, allowing the #oppressed to go free.
