It's important to be able to conquer our fear -- to be able to accomplish the mission at hand without distraction holding us back. Soldiers, law enforcement, EMS workers, and others have to at times summon great amounts of courage against insuperable odds.

There exists an expression today that some folks I believe secretly acclaim as a positive when upon reflection is much more negative than they might realize, namely, 'fighting with nothing to lose'.

A person who 'fights with nothing to lose' is a broken person. It is a person who has nothing left to live for, and this total sum loss means they can theoretically cope with fear effectively because they do not cling to life as much. They are ready to die, and may just have the raging mindset to take everyone with them first. This mindset, however glamorous and hardcore in the movies, is really something that in actuality is unsustainable. A warrior needs a heart to fight with. They need something to fight for -- something to live for -- something to die for. The long standing soldier has much to learn, and he will win your wars.
