Lessons in Military Leadership - This video covers the phases of taking a new private and developing them into a fully trained member of a team. I wish I had known then, what I know now. What I thought about military leadership came largely from simply replicating what I saw leaders around me doing (for better or for worse, and usually for worse), or what we had all seen in movies. In reality, leading soldiers should be a far more deliberate process that is predictable and can be really made successful by including some very surprising and rarely mentioned secrets. Tear them down, build them up, and then welcome them to the brotherhood. These lessons were gained during my time serving at 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.

Civilian response to active shooter events can be very dangerous and involves far more considerations that simply 'grab your gun and go'. Thinking through legal, moral, and tactical considerations beforehand can save lives, which may include your own life. My Normal Range Warm up Routine - I don't just go out on the range and start blasting targets. I have a relatively mundane routine where I'm practicing slow and smooth draws, slow shooting, and general gun fighting oriented skills and movement. As I reach a good warm up where all my skills are tight, then I start shooting live fire, and then I start picking up the pace.

I saw the movie 'Hands of Stone' tonight with Robert DeNiro and LOVED IT. There were some incredible lessons to be learned as fighters and as philosophers, in short, lessons for warrior poets everywhere. This simple tip could save your life. Share it with someone who doesn't know better. Bad guys pick easy targets, so don't ever become one! To be safe, we don't have to live inside a bunker surrounded by guns. Realistically, just making tiny changes on a daily basis can add up to greatly improve your safety and the safety of your loved ones.

There was an old joke about two men who knew they were about to be chased by a bear. One man got down and started tightening his running shoes, to which the other man replied "you don't really think you can outrun a bear do you?" The other man replied, I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you. So it goes with self-defense - bad guys pick easy targets, so you don't have to be the greatest warrior, you just have to be a less desirable target than the people around you! Don't be an easy target for criminals! One easy step...close your blinds at night so bad guys don't pick you as their next victim.

For those who have solidified their fundamental pistol skills and basic skill sets, I wanted to urge you to begin moving toward the next level in becoming a better protector. Incorporate basic tactics into your shooting, in this case, hiding your draw-stroke. Please do not attempt this until your shooting is safe, consistent, and automatic.
