This week is a two episode recap to get is lined up for the new season. Episode 8 picks up with the aftermath of Joel getting stabbed. His wound is getting infected and Ellie ventures out to find food. After shooting and killing a deer, she encounters David and James. She makes a deal to trade half of the deer for penicillin, which saves Joel's life. She soon finds out the hard way that David and James are truly depraved sickos out for blood...more specifically, Joel's blood. In the episode 9 season finale, we get more backstory about Ellie through a flashback to her birth and how she became immune. In the present, Ellie and Joel arrive in Salt Lake City looking for the Fireflies secret lab. During their search we see a softer, warmer side of Joel. This is where things get really interesting. Marlene is now back in the picture and gives Joel the truth about Ellie's condition and how they plan on using her to make a cure...and that is where shit goes left.

This episode picks up three months after watching Henry kill Sam and  himself in KC, Joel and Ellie arrive in Wyoming. The meet an isolated  couple, Florence and Marlon, who tell them their whereabouts and warn them to avoid the dangers further west across the river. Learning his brother Tommy may be dead, Joel has a panic attack. The leave and get surrounded by a group on horseback who eventually lead him to a reunion with his brother in Jackson, a fully functioning town. He learns his brother is married and got a baby on the way as well as where the Fireflys are. They make their way to the hideout and get attacked and Joel is wounded....

This episode pretty much picks up exactly where Episode 4 leaves off: with guns in the faces of Joel and Ellie from Henry and Sam. We find out that Kansas City is newly freed from FEDRA by Kathleen and her army. This episode also focuse on getting to know Henry and Sam who is on the run from Kathleen and company because he sold her brother out to FEDRA. This episode also gives us great action and some terrific deaths thanks to the giant bloater and other infected people.

This week picks up with Joel and Ellie on the road again heading West. On their way, they run into a blocked highway and end up detouring through Kansas City, where they are ambushed by the a new group of characters, the Hunters, led by Kathleen and Perry. This episode also introduces us to other new characters, Henry and Sam. This episode also focused on the budding relationship and closeness of Sam and Ellie...and it also let us know that something really big is on the horizon.

Episode 2 really picks up the action from the first episode. We learn a little more about the fungus from the opening scene. We also get a somewhat major death as well as an introduction to clickers. In episode 3, Joel and Ellie travel to Lincoln, Massachusetts to find fellow smugglers Bill and Frank, who they hope can help get Ellie to the Fireflys out West.
