Watch God Work with Lawrence E. Adjah

📣👊🏿 In this episode of Watch God Work, we discuss the recent news regarding  Student Loan Forgiveness and the conversation surrounding the issue amongst people of faith (you, me, we). Whether you have loans, had loans or none of the above how we address the issue can give us a mirror into how well we understand grace.

In the end, our view is that while our faith does not necessarily tell us where we should all land on this issue, our faith should allow us to have the conversation and consider the policy position with great humility, and consideration.

In this episode of Watch God Work with Lawrence Adjah, I share some great personal news, which is my nephew Eli giving his life to Christ.  While the focus is on the God's hands in the entire experience, we discuss ways in which parents, uncles, aunts, God parents, and older siblings like you and I can engage with children around their faith.

We discuss the prevalent approach to be hands off around a child's faith journey and how that approach doesn't honor God's highest intention for our relationship with children. Also, we talk specifically about the difference between "Baby / Child Dedication" and a child making their own declaration of faith and giving their life to Christ (a common area of confusion).

📣👊🏿 In view of Art Basel 2021, in this week's episode of Watch God Work, we welcome our sister Genesis Tramaine. Genesis is a Brooklyn born devotional artist, who creates art to both communicate the gospel of Christ and to communicate (devotion) her love of God.

We discuss art as devotion, using everything you have, the gift of black womanhood, finding strength in structure, being alone with God, and much more.

Genesis Tramaine is an expressionist devotional painter who creates abstract portraits of men and women who transcend gender, race, and social structures. She digests the everyday and regurgitates it as work that evokes déjà vu, beckoning memories of past lives and glimpses of undiscovered futures. The blueprint of Genesis’ style is rooted in strong mix of 1980’s urban New York graffiti, and imagined images of gospel hymns sung on Sunday morning during church.

Tramaine paints with a confrontational and provocative use of color and through an urban-inspired, mixed-media approach. The artist describes her practice as focused on the shape and definition of the American Black Face, explaining that her subject’s exaggerated features capture the spirited emotions of the untapped, underrepresented soul of Black people through a mixture of acrylic and oil-based paintings.

Tramaine’s work is also powerfully influenced by Bible verses and other readings she studied in church. Her spiritual influences have a strong impact on the composition and depth of her paintings, which explore deeply human themes including ethics and insanity, the mundane and the inhumane, spirituality, sexuality, and sentimentality.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Tramaine earned her M.S from Pace University and B.S from Utica College of Syracuse University. Tramaine has exhibited nationally and internationally, including an inaugural solo exhibition with Almine Rech in London in February 2020, ‘Parables of Nana’, as well as exhibitions at Richard Beavers Gallery, Brooklyn, NYC; The Tree House, Governors Island, NYC; The Salt Space, Chelsea, NYC; The Raging Spoon Gallery, Toronto, Canada; AOF Gallery, NYC; and more. Her work resides in prominent museum collections including the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Miami and the Contemporary Art Foundation, Tokyo.

We'll revisit this topic from other aspects of support in order to best equip everyone to not only show up but show up well for friends/loved ones in their times of need.

In this episode of Watch God Work we discuss the Omicron variant and the recent US travel ban on South Africa and a number of African countries and how it unintentionally exacerbates division and undermines an already weakened public trust in governing authorities' ability to keep politics out of public health.

In this episode of Watch God Work, we discuss the film King Richard and the "ancillary" controversy surrounding the film being centered around father, Richard Williams, and the role and impact he had on the success of Venus and Serena Williams.

We discuss the elements of faith contained in the film, including the Godly call of all God's children to honor their parents and the impact our honor or lack thereof has on the public discourse surrounding not only black fathers, but also black men as a whole.
