  • PRIMETIME August 2023

    Send us Fan Mail

We know you missed us and we are back with our August edition of PRIMETIME Watchmaking in the news.

Despite some extreme temperatures in Geneva, quite a lot has happened during this holiday period, so quite a few things to be shared with you. However,  they will be mostly business-related as brands are holding to their new timepieces for the upcoming shows, including the Geneva Watch Days happening here at the end of the month.
We’ll also talk about a few interesting auctions, some other watchmaking events and shows to come, and a bit of watches.

Just to remind you we recently published a video on the epic collaboration of Furlan Marri, Julien Tixier and Dominique Renaud for the Only Watch auction which will take place in November. They created a secular perpetual calendar with only 25 components for the in-house patented module, including 5 for the secular module. And in this video, they explain how it works.

  • PRIMETIME Summer 2023

    Send us Fan Mail

Hello and welcome back on a pretty juicy edition PRIMETIME Watchmaking in the news with business news, plenty of new timepieces, a bit of EPHJ summary with some interesting innovations seen there, a bit of Only Watch and much more.

In this edition, we are talking about the EPHJ, the professional trade show for the watchmaking, jewellery, medical and microtechnology industry and the super cool innovations of 2023. We touch upon the problem of the shortage of workforce, which looks like becoming an international problem. Among other topics are new nominations, a bit of pure business and sales figures, a couple of international events, and the shitstorm of the Omega case and its consequences for us all.

And since our last Primetime, we published a very important video where we explained in detail what we’ve been working on for a while, what is Horopedia, and why this project is so dear to our team. We have seen the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watch, an honestly priced summer piece, we took you along the 75th anniversary of one of the greatest watchmakers of our generation, Mister Philippe Dufour, who by the way is the President of the HOROPEDIA Foundation. And we also presented the best innovations from the latest EPHJ edition, so go and check those videos.

  • PRIMETIME May 2023

    Send us Fan Mail

Hello and welcome back on PRIMETIME Watchmaking in the news.

In this intense May edition, we talk about the results of the latest Geneva watch auctions, and it looks like things are getting back to some kind of normality. We discussed the impacts of this on the primary market and the state of the second-hand market, we touched upon one important event in the UK and finally got the official information concerning the rumour on the alleged deal between LVMH and Cartier. Spoiler alert - it is not happening any time soon.

Among other topics, new appointments in AP and Bremont, expansion plans of Greubel Forsey and Bulgari, and a bunch of new watches will also be present in the second part of our show. Some beautiful in design, some innovative, some scary and some ecologically sustainable.

And, please, note that next week we will publish a video explaining everything about the HOROPEDIA project, so don't miss it!

  • Watch Market Performance with Olivier Müller

    Send us Fan Mail

This is a special edition of our Podcast which we want to do more often and it's dedicated to the watch industry and what to expect in 2023.

We spoke to Olivier Müller, founder of LuxeConsult and co-author of the recent Morgan Stanley report on the watch industry, and discussed with him the strong and weak points of different brands, their results in 2022, and the overall performance of the main groups.

In a nutshell, the watch market continues to gain momentum from last year however, 2023 could become tougher for the in-between brands, that produce mid-range timepieces.

  • PRIMETIME January

    Send us Fan Mail

Hello and welcome to this first edition of PRIMETIME Watchmaking in the News of 2023.  We have plenty of news to share with you on business and products.

With this PRIMETIME you will get the latest important industry news about Rolex, numbers on Swiss watch exports, the price forecast for gold, and our thoughts on how this could affect the market. Plus, some useful information about major changes in Breitling and Bovet, and, of course, new timepieces, including some exceptional mechanisms to celebrate the Chinese year of the Rabbit.

And we hope that you checked all the vids we published since our last edition in December. This is a behind the scene of the double winner of the GPHG in the men’s and women’s categories - smart wolrdtimer Arceau Le Temps Voyageur by Hermès. We did a follow-up on Jean-Claude Biver and his son’s new project. We hosted a fantastic dinner party in our Watches TV Club with many of the new faces of independent watchmaking. By the way, if you happen to be young and talented in watches, we strongly recommend you participate in the Young Talent Competition organised by François-Paul Journe. Should you wish to register, better do it before 1 February.

We also published our typical end-of-the-year Best Watches 2022, just for the pleasure of the eyes, and a really super cute video showing kids attending a watchmaking workshop here in Geneva.

And finally, we shared the story of Prague’s incredible Astronomical clock, a crazy piece of engineering and science. You can find some more information about it on our website as well.

Hello, and welcome on Primetime Podcast and our final edition for this year. Yes, time flies! And we would like to thank you all for being with us and supporting us through this year 🤩🤩🤩

In this edition of PRIMETIME you will know all about Rolex and its gigantic plans for soft and hard expansion on the market, you will hear the preliminary forecasts on the e-commerce and the secondary watch market for the coming years, and we calculate the total price of all watches exported by Switzerland in the first 10 months of this year. There will be some special surprises for those who want to hear about the novelties, including close-ups of very recent wristwatch models from AP, MB&F, Behrens, and A.Lange & Sohne, as well as clocks and timekeepers from Around Five and CODE41. So you will know what presents to ask for or to give because we made a kind of Christmas edition of PRIMETIME to bring us all merry and joy during this festive season 🥳🎁🎄

And we would like to note, that since our November show, we did post a few other reports such as the recap of the Singapore Watch Fair and a full debrief on the results of the GPHG, which was the new format for us, but we hope you liked it. Another recap was on the latest important watch auctions, plus a nice report regarding some other lots recently put on auction by Ineichen with some really cool timepieces. Speaking of auctions, we also published one of those long interviews you particularly appreciate and we like doing with Mr. Osvaldo Patrizzi, co-founder of Antiquorum, a man who played a significant role in making what the auction world has become. And finally, we also talked about the surprising evolution of Chinese watchmaking.
