Missing in Maui: A Disappeared Special on Investigation Discovery tells the story of the family of Carly Joann Scott, a 27-year old woman who went missing on the island of Maui on February 9th, 2014. Disappeared is one of our favorite ID shows, and this did not disappoint. The show really does a good job of bringing us into the beautiful and unforgiving island as we learn about who “Charli” is and what happened to her on a dark and lonely road.

We’re talking about Gone in Georgia: A Disappeared Special on Investigation Discovery.

This is the story of Kelly Nash who disappeared on January 5th, 2015, at age 25.

Kelly wasn’t feeling well on the night he disappeared. He was last seen by his live-in girlfriend, Jessica, at about 3:30 in the morning. He was playing a video game on the living room sofa.

When Jessica woke up at 7:30, Kelly was gone. His wallet, cell phone, and truck were left behind. It was as if he had vanished into thin air.

This Disappeared Special follows the search and the heartbreak of Kelly’s family and friends as they try to figure out what happened to Kelly, an apparently happy young man with a promising future.

This week’s episode of Grave Mysteries was an unusual story of an unlikely victim of prostitution and a violent murder. Brittany was a model high school student who worked with younger kids at the local rec center. When she vanished after taking a trip to the store, her family became concerned. Their concern turned to panic when night fell and she still wasn’t home. They called the police. There were concerns about Brittany’s older boyfriend, Derrick. They didn’t approve of him and suspected he had done something to Brittany. The investigation depends upon Facebook and phone record searches to find Brittany’s killer. And, in a terrible twist, she isn’t the only victim.

After having her heart broken, 28-year old Samantha Lezark’s efforts to find love again lead to a fatal ending; now, investigators must follow her digital trail through different chat rooms to uncover her killer.  And he has killed before. Grave Mysteries is a new ID show and this is the premiere episode.  It had a lot of reenactments, which was okay, but it was the interviews with the victim’s family and the investigators that offered the most insight. There was a legitimate twist at the end which really increased the impact of Samantha’s murder.

A missing person? Check. A murder? Check. Stellar police work? Well…

In this, the finale of Gone, we ask ourselves if we are being overly critical or are most of these cases prolonged due to less than stellar investigatory work.

Dena Raley-McCluskey was feeling positive about life when she didn’t show up for her first day back to work after an extended leave.

Did her abusive boyfriend do something to Dena? Her family definitely thinks so.

This Gone has a great ending. The rest was kind of eh.  After researching so many missing persons’ cases, we know that this is an unusual outcome, but there are so many more interesting cases out there! Michele Whitaker, 32, was leading a troubled life when she disappeared without a trace. Her family and local police investigated every possible lead for six years until a phone call brought new found hope to her mother. Where was Michele for six years? More importantly, Dick wants to know why she didn’t call her mother.
