Correspondence👌 and Engagement is at the heart ❤ of my political career. I had a resident and neighbor who called to remind me that it's an election 🤔 year. Also recommend a certain👍 individual to be encourage to run for village council in the fall. I will be reaching out to that person🤲 to gage their interest and offer my support💪. Training 👩‍🏫 and professional development. 👏 I have recieved so much over the last 3 years, am constantly overwhelmed 🤯with gratitude for any votes of confidence👌 and have learned from all my peers,😎 both here in the village and by working with the🖖 provincial colleagues on the UBCM executive🤩 as small community representative. 🤟 I intend to run for 😇 re-election, both as councillor and 🤏small community representative. I also have🥰 a campaign in April for the AVICC as a candidate for 👊director at large. Even got a back burner, potential 🗣panel for the victoria forum,🤌 featuring Mayor's from a handful👣 of smaller, rural or remote north and west island communities🫂 called "it's easy to think big when your small." 🤞Fingers crossed that the Association of Vancouver Island Coastal🚣‍♂️ Communities executive board 😀 decided they want to hear from our resilient voices🧗. Thanks to Dr. Chasten Remillard for coining the phrase prac-academic. So much of my education is practical and in the doing of real life. From parenting to politics. It's quite a stretch, to even for my elastic imagination, to visualize me writing a thesis project. I struggle to balance basic cheque book and schedule my calendar. When i submitted my recommendation from the TAAC to council i felt as thought my report writing was holding back the achievements of the group. When i presented my talk "creative leadership" at the decoda literacy conference i viewed reading the reviews provided by the people who attended very humbling. Even way back, when i taught children at Zanzibar International Film Festival i asked myself, is what i provided to the students somewhat close to what i advertised it as. As I was attending this event(and recording it for today's episode), I missed out the community cupboard delivery. So glad they had enough volunteers to huff the st Vincent du Paul food, from the loaves and fishes truck in the rec centre parking lot, uphill to the church basement. I was able to connect with a mom i know from town about how she's going back to school. I've been inspired by my spouse pursuing higher education, from the comfort of home, recently, and even have reconnected with a old friend from my university days who's decided now's the time to try again. I did to catch the end of the warming centre wrap up and was with Jack Taylor to return the cots to the emergency seacans. I mention these other things because I have confided once, when doing cupboard delivery with William Davidson, that as much as I enjoy the engagement of being the chairperson, the age friendly accessiblity comittee and secretary treasurer of Unity 4 Community. Policy making, budget adjustments and strategic planning are great and all yet i get a lot more from physically being there with people, listening to the boots on the ground and doing the dirty work instead of having endless meetings about a given issue. That beeing said i got pretty excited about some of the classes offered by this school in this program. About being pragmatic in the collectong and disseminating of data and the analysis of conflict. From intro to communications theory to (policy politics and the law) or leadership of intercultural competence and global coaching. The names of these course are turning a page for me, personally and exploring new layers of distinction in myself. From risk measures to academic integrity, to data analytics & critical thinking. Its correspondance, family, office hours, work, home, school, breaking boudaries, flexibility, opening my mind to limitless, leisure, interdisciplinary study. It's life. Changing.

Among many other things, like rural urban fabric and centering on the needs of the most vulnerable. We are friends from Laurier high school in London who are now both municipal councillors, in middle age. There comes a load of intrinsically valuable introspection with that time of life. We both enjoy giving blood and promoting the boots on the ground causes in our communities. Whether it's Knights of Columbus Christmas hampers or Sexual Assault Support Centre we are both working on using our "positions of power" and influence for good, or at the very least educational purposes. From pristine farmland to ground water sources to being a short drive to both the St Jacob's farmers market and the regional landfill. As a cityboy, accountant, businessman turned municipal politician, he talks about using multiple lenses. Learning to "grow up not out," and talking about how both the cities of Waterloo and Hamilton have been working on the "country side line initiative" since 2003 as a movement away from sprawl. A larger movement towards more thoughtful development and not missing an opportunity to address the affordable housing crisis affecting many places in Ontario and British Columbia. The city of waterloo has 110000 residents, boasts a university (or two if your including kitchener) and is showing growth and development pressures that rival San Francisco. In fact, its one of the fastest growing places in the world. However the other side to that coin means contending with gentrification and "the many challanges associated with change." From zoning, vacancy rates, rapid transit, community consultation, engaging residents and connecting people. To Research in Motion's blackberry, communitech, innovation ecosystems and encouraging the talents of graduates to stick around after completion of the world class education available in the area. Being on the toronto GO corridor there's been regional investments and interest in all day, two way transportation systems. Transforming social demand and drinking from firehoses' as we discuss how airports, rail networks, road infrastructure, bike shares, walking trails and otherwise, interconnectedness needs to be considered an essential services, rather than "nice to have" wish list budget items. Even to simply remember the busy greyhound buses of our youth and reflect on the demand driven nature of inter-community travel. Is it helping our communities to cut supply? Certainly no one wants to hit a wall or come upon a deadend they didnt expect. And so we keep learning, a little bit about a lot of things and to pull our part of the rope. Yet to contend with waitlists of 200 of more for crisis councillors, fundraising, consulting, dook knocking and inventing new ways to better measure the up and down steam effects of exponential grown or shrinkage.
