As a church, we all have responsibilities. Being part of a church means that we all have a job. So, on this Sunday, I intended to talk about what the Bible has to say about all of our jobs. As a pastor, what am I supposed to do? As members of the body of Christ, what are we all supposed to do? So, this week was: "Job Description Sunday." I may be a little weird, but I think this was fun.

Last Sunday, we talked about the importance of the local body of Christ. WCC needs YOU, and you need your brothers and sisters in Christ because the church is to be about the work of the Gospel. Now, if this gospel mission of the church is so important, it seems that God would have equipped His church with the tools to accomplish the tasks. This is correct! He did, in fact, give His church the tools to complete the task. Every member of the body has been given a gift. YOU have been given a gift. God has something great in store for His church. We need you to accomplish it. This Sunday, we had a lot of fun taking a peek at the concept of Spiritual Gifts. Have a great week living out the mission of the Gospel no matter where you are!

And that complexity makes the body the perfect metaphor for the church. The church is God's primary expression of Himself in this world. We are His body. Now THAT is exciting! I love my bride. If you've been around WCC for any length of time, you know that I think Clorrisa is the most amazing woman on the face of this earth. And she knows just how to be a great wife to me! She is God's gift to me, and I love her dearly. Did you know that Jesus has a bride? The Bride of Christ is the Church. That's you! And while, to some of you men, it may seem a little weird to think of yourself as a bride, nevertheless, that's what you are! Imagine adopting a school-aged child into your home (for some of us, this isn't too difficult). Think of how that child would change from just another child in the world into an instant member of your family. You would now be the Mom or Dad to this child. And this child would be a brother or sister to all your other children. Granted the child may not instantly feel like part of the family, but regardless, the adoption created an entirely new family for that child. This has obvious implications for the life of a believer. As Pastor Dave discussed last Sunday, when we put our faith in Jesus we become members of the family of God. We are no longer simply aquaintances or friends, but family. This Sunday we unpacked what being a member of this family means.
