The West, viewing China as a strategic rival, is uneasy about China's accomplishment and potential, especially in science and technology. One of the stats alarmist pundits frequently cite is the sheer number of STEM graduates China produces every year. The number is projected to be twice as many as those in the US by 2025. But the spike has less to do with any grand scheme of the government to groom talents than with the general expansion of higher education.
