Today Perry and Shawna continue to talk about what it means, and what it looks like to love our neighbor.
First being a good neighbor starts with loving God. And loving God means obeying his commands. The big ones, like don’t steal, don’t murder. But it goes deeper, it’s treating our neighbor the way we want to be treated. And then it goes even deeper, it’s loving my neighbor the way Jesus does. And this is where we realize that loving our neighbor is only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit!
Then a conversation about an inner battle that can keep us from loving our neighbor. It’s the battle between what we want and what the Spirit wants. But the Holy Spirit gives us hope in the battle. Because the Spirit reminds us that we’re forgiven for not loving our neighbor, the Spirit tells us we’re loved children of the Father and the Spirit fills us with God’s desires so we can in real life really love our neighbor!
And finally loving your neighbor looks like Shawna putting her arms around a friend, not saying anything, just holding her tight after she had just learned that her best friend, a sister, had just taken her life. Loving our neighbors is way more than being civil, it’s loving as we have been loved by God. And it’s possible through the power of the gospel.
