When the world informs our desires, it becomes near impossible to be in the world without being of the world.

Because God remains God when we pray, we must be willing to accept the way in which God decides to respond to our requests.

The Myth of Scarcity is born out of fear. The Liturgy of Abundance is born out of hope and trust and contentment.

Security, certainty, and expertise are so comforting.  We spend most of our lives trying to attain them. But, they are errands of the wrong kind of fool.

God made something out of nothing, makes somebody's out of nobody's, remains patient when justice requires expediency, and on and on not because He's weak or cruel or timid or non-existent.  God does these things out of who He is.

Gideon taught his children, by example, to defend personal honor by seeking vengeance against those who are disloyal.  Jesus has taught us another way...

God has never abdicated and will never abdicate the throne to us.  No matter what He has done for us, no matter what He is doing in us, no matter what He might do through us, God will remain God.

In seasons of God's judgment, we must be united under Jesus' Lordship, submitted to the Prophets and Apostles and gracious and compassionate with one another, slow to anger, and abounding in loyalty.

Many, even believers, no longer can comprehend a difference between the teachings of the prophets of Israel and the Apostles of Jesus and our own--essentially universalizing the idea of inspiration and God-breathedness, emptying the Christian Scriptures of their authority and their uniqueness.

In Gideon's time, Israel needed a reset to factory settings.  Yahweh and Baal and Ashterah had become one.
