  • From Wander To Wonder: The Prophets

Currently we are in our four part Christmas series titled 'From Wander to Wonder, experiencing the human and the holy'. Over four weeks we will be looking at the Prophets, Mary, King Herod, the Wisemen and the Christmas story as a whole.

The goal of this series is to take us out of wandering around in life, and instead bring us to the feet of Jesus in wonder and awe of who He is; and the purpose of our lives in Him.

This week, Pastor Luke introduced the series with the Prophets; examining how the birth and life of Jesus were predicted and came to pass throughout all of time. It was no accident where, when and how Jesus came to earth; a redemptive plan that God had put into action since the beginning of time. Luke honed in on two Christmas prophecies in particular, one found in Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:18-22, and the other in Micah 5:2 and Matthew 2:6.

  • Wealth & Wisdom Week 3

This week, Pastor Matthew led us in the last of our three part money series: Wealth and Wisdom. Looking at Matthew 16:19-24, he spoke about the juxtaposition of, and our choice between the two treasuries, the two perspectives and the two masters.

If we grasp hold of what Jesus taught us about money and possessions, it has the capacity to change our lives eternally and transform us internally. In Jesus, we have the incredible opportunity to trade temporary goods and currency for eternal rewards. At the core of it all, the question is this: who are we serving?

  • Are You Ready For the Adventure?

This week Pastor Matthew shared about why we go to the nations; and why as a church we believe so strongly in seeing people who have never heard, hear the name of Jesus.

He spoke about the life of saying yes in the context of our unshakeable faith in the goodness and trustworthiness of God. Jesus calls us to the nations because He loves the world, as seen in the narrative of the Bible. God is still in the process of spreading His Kingdom across the world through His church, and we are invited to be a part of it.

  • A Model for Loving Others Well

This week, Pastor Matthew finished up our Church Beneath the Surface series with the sermon 'A model for loving others well.'

Going beneath the surface of our lives, and doing the deep transforming work of God within us allows us to supernaturally love God and others well. With Jesus as our example, Pastor Matthew gave us a three step model to live this out:

    Entering Another's World
    Holding on to Yourself
    Hanging Between Two Worlds

  • Processing Grief and Loss

This week Pastor Matthew walked us through the movements of processing sorrow, grieving and loss; equating the degree to which we grieve our losses to the depth and quality of our relationship with God, and the compassion we can offer to others.

Avoiding grief is the anthem of our culture, an issue which causes us to self-medicate, does damage to our souls, and stops us moving forward. The three step Biblical rhythm to grieving is:

    1) Paying attention
    2) Waiting in the confusing in-between
    3) Allowing the old to birth the new

  • The Theology of Brokenness

This week, Pastor Matthew helped us to establish a theology of brokenness and weakness by leading us into the paradox between being Holy-Spirit empowered new creations and broken, weak human beings. If we are to be a healthy church full of healthy people we need to be reconciled to our brokenness through vulnerability.
