  • David Redding - DRedd - F3 Culture - #0092
David Redding (DRedd), a lawyer, and his close friend Tim Whitmire cofounded a fitness group called F3 Fitness. Starting back in 2011 the group was located in North Carolina and started off immediately overflowing the capacity. The group quickly split into 3 workout groups and has continued to grow in a similar fashion.
DRedd grew up in Connecticut and attended Boston University where he was apart of the ROTC program. After that David moved down south and did 9 years in the army, half infantry and half special forces. After that he attended Wake Forest Law School where he met his wife.
F3 is a an incredible network of workouts for men that spans all over the nation. Their mission is to grow to serve small workout groups for men and to cultivate male community and leadership. It had started out in North Carolina in 2011 and quickly grew to more than 26 states and 1,400 workouts a week. The three Fs stand for FITNESS, FELLOWSHIP and FAITH (defined as not one faith system or religion, but a belief in something outside yourself).
Ranging from 5-year-olds up to 70-year-olds, the group continues to grow and workout together. Their workouts are free and open to all men. They are held outdoors regardless of the weather and are led by men who participate in the workouts. The leaders rotate and do not require any certification to lead.
Their credo: Leave no man behind, but leave no man where you find him.

  • Lone Duck’s Gun Dog Chronicles : E. 42 Master Stashional Recap
It feels good to be back in action. Apologies for the lull in shows but things were quite busy over the past few weeks, as we'll get into during the show.
Bob and Kevin sit down to review the past few weeks filled with Golden Retriever puppies and a trip to Master National with Memphis, Ember and Cruz. Bob describes the set up for each series and shares how each dog performed. We are proud and humbled with the outcome of this competition and are excited to share it with everyone who supported Lone Duck during The Stashional.
I think this show got a little more emotional than we expected. It's an incredible experience when long hours of hard work and grit pays off. As a bonus, we learn about Bob's bowels, too.
Happy hunting season and hey, cheers to you guys.

  • Tripletail Strategy - HOW 2 TUESDAY #68
Tripletail are a prehistoric looking fish that like to float next to debris or trap balls. There are several ways to fish for them including Flyfishing, live bait and lures. I have found a few other techniques that have caught fish that used to simply leave me frustrated. Join me today to discuss some tactics that might help you convert a shot to a beautiful Tripletail fillet on the plate.
The Tripletail don’t seem to be able to see as well as other kinds of fish (like permit) because they have tiny little eyes. Because of that you will need to throw fairly close to the Tripletail. It can swim pretty fast once you hook it, but it doesn’t seem like it can swim fast over a long distance. So you need to be prepared for a short burst, but that is all.
You can use shrimp, but I really like using flies. This is because you can make a cast, and if it is not where you want it to be you don’t have to reel it all the way back in and recast. You can pick it up from 40-feet away and put it where you want it.
When I first started fishing for Tripletail I thought it was all about the surface, where I could see the fish. This technique is where you throw your fly (or live shrimp) over there and pull it over the fishes face and keep moving it in a slow fashion and he will come over and eat it. But I found that I would sometimes pull it away from the fish (and my jig would begin to sink to the bottom) and I waited and I got a bite. So I found that technique to be very productive, especially if the fish was not following it when we threw it out there.
See you on the water,Tom Rowland
    Check out the show notes:
00:00 -Recently we had an opportunity to take advantage of fishing for Tripletail
00:49 - Personally I don’t encounter this fish very much so this was a unique experience for me
01:20 - The Everglades is where you will see a lot of Tripletail
02:14 - Tripletail is easily one of my favorite fish to eat
03:11 - You can often see Tripletail on the surface and just throw to where you see them
03:36 - Tripletail has a tiny eye, the eye size might indicate how well it can see
05:08 - Tripletail will not swim fast over a long distance like barracuda or mackerel
06:08 - Why I like using flies for fishing for Tripletail
06:39 - Tripletail want to eat, so if you throw the right cast they will come over and eat it
07:15 - Letting the bait drop to the bottom
09:14 - We were able to throw further away by letting jigs fall to the bottom
09:55 - Make sure that the fish is legal, the size regulations have changed, so be aware of that

  • The Woman Angler & Adventurer | Be a Part of the Women in the Outdoors Movement! : EP. 84 Confessions of a Mansplainer
I have been working in the fishing industry for many years and about once a month I  get a message or an email asking my opinion on the wording of something, a photograph or if I think a post could post be offensive. Most time's it is well-meaning guys who want to be doing the right thing and occasionally is a Women who is upset about something.   Well, I recently received a call from a long-time acquaintance, Lyubaka, who is an avid angler and a You Tuber (lyubakavideo). He preceded to tell me that he recently was invited to go fishing by a woman from Kanas. His truck driving job allows him to travel and he always packs a fishing rod and hopes to wet a line. His paths crossed with a gal, and he joined her to fish her spot for catfish. He filmed the fishing and later watched the video. Lyubaka stated " I wanted to punch myself in the face" after seeing how condescending he was to the lady. At one point he even reached over to further adjust the drag while she was fighting a fish. ( see picture )       His behavior on the video shocked him, and he did not realize how he was acting. We decided to do the podcast and have a discussion about it. Many times those mansplainers have good intentions, and seeing it from the outside looking in, gives it a whole new perspective. As an angling educator, this caused me to look in the mirror and see if I could have been a "womansplainer". It got me thinking......have I???? all in all a good lesson and a good reminder to not make assumptions about what you think other people may or may not know.  They might just surprise you. - Barb Carey     Additional Resources: Subscribe to Lyubaka's YouTube Channel
