Wim Hof Breathing Method 

In October of 2015 I came across a documentary that changed how I started my day. Vice did a documentary about a Daredevil named Wim Hof who, through a breathing technique, was able to do amazing things previously believed to be impossible. He ran a marathon barefoot in the Arctic Circle, another marathon in extreme heat, he climbed Mt Kilamanjaro in shorts and even went up Everest in a pair of shorts. He set world records for swims under frozen lakes, he stayed in ice up to his neck longer than anyone to set a World Record. He was also able to influence his autonomic immune system in a laboratory environment to astound the scientific community. What was the most impressive to me, though, was that he claimed that he could teach these methods to anyone and that anyone could do what he has done. Strong claim…but he proved it by takin untrained people right up Kilamanjaro and teaching a group of people to alter their autonomic immune system in a lab just as he had done.

I was intrigued, so I tried it and I felt changes immediately. I have started every day with this protocol since.

Bonus episode time! We got so much great stuff from the Redfish Roadie Roadtrip with Rip and Hopper's Aventure, we wanted to share two with you today! We're still rollin' in the minivan (#minivanlife).

What's a road trip without a little adventure? This trip didn't disappoint, at least not for Angie. Not only did she get stranded on an island in the Everglades (stay tuned for a future episode for more on that!) but she also witnessed a harrowing water rescue complete with a runaway boat...and she caught it all on Facebook live. Lessons learned here are always wear your kill switch AND your PFD. Now come be a fly-on-the-wall once again as we continue on the adventure!

"19 Days, 3,796 Miles, 5 States, starting in Nashville and heading to Homosassa, FL then all along the coast to New Orleans, LA with the goal to fish and meet up with as many women as we can along the way." That was the premise of the 2019 edition of Rip and Hopper's Adventure, the Redfish Roadie Road Trip- Pretty. Darn. Epic.  As you may recall waaaay back on Episode 16 of The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast Angie Scott interviewed Jen Ripple from DUN Magazine and Heather Hodson from United Women on the Fly at Fly South in Nashville as they were about to embark on their first Rip and Hopper's Adventure. (By-the-way, that episode won 1st place at the Tennessee Outdoor Writers Association 2019 Excellence in Craft Awards in the Radio/Podcast category!) Well, fast forward a year later, Angie Scott had the honor of tagging along on the 2nd incarnation of the trip! Now you're invited to come along too, as we travel in the minivan on our way to New Orleans, LA looking back over the Florida portion of the adventure. In a recent podcast with David Redding (cofounder of F3 Fitness) we talked about an acronym that David came up with, CSAUP. These are workouts that are Completely Stupid And Utterly Pointless and is something that they put into the F3 workout routine.

The definition of a workout that is CSAUP is when you tell someone what you are doing and they say, “I don’t get it…” Despite the name, I do think that there is a purpose for doing workouts like this (like a Tough Mudder) and I think they create a lot of value. While they might be completely stupid, they aren’t utterly pointless.

The reason that I choose to put events like this on my schedule is because it stretches you. I believe that you thrive on the edge of your comfort zone. Growth happens when you get to the edge of your comfort zone and keep pushing through. That is why I have events that might seem completely stupid as a normal part of my physical activities.
