Ah crap... I broke the politics barrier.... I don't care if your a Republican... a Democrat, Coal Roller or a Tree Huggin hippy... ya gotta sit down and listen to this one... plus... theres some really good content put out this week by the fine podcasters of the outdoors/waterfowl world.
If you've ever thought you might be drinking too much, then is a must-listen to episode. I break down some of my issues with alcohol, some pretty embarrassing stories, along with the results from the first 3- month of my alcohol test (best news is that you don't have to quit drinking... unless you need to...) Enjoy.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down to review the day's work over a nice whisky. Bob explains today's training set up and how he coaches dogs through difficult training situations. We discuss the plan for the next hunt test on our home turf and then dig into some fantastic Q&A from the Lone Duck Community. We answer a lot of great questions and even a few solid live ones from those on Instagram. There's a lot of good tips and tricks in this one, if you're looking for some fine retriever training advice. Cheers!
Josh Carney loved to hunt from a very young age. He went on his first turkey hunt with his father and was shot accidentally which left him a paraplegic and in a wheelchair. While in the hospital, Josh had a feeding tube in his throat which he pulled out when told he wasn’t going to be able to speak again. Little did he know at the time that the tube had altered his vocal cords and that he would now be able to make animal sounds better than with any type of call. Today Josh uses his mouth calls for turkey hunting and travels through the United States to pursue hunting. Josh is also a motivational speaker and life coach who has an infectiously positive outlook on life.
Today's guest is going to cover a ton of topics. Megan Brown is a 6th generation cattle farmer in Northern California who also raises heritage pork. Megan and the family farm also went through the Cherokee and Campfire Wildfires back in 2017 and 2018. She will also talk about her fight in promoting feminism and bring to light some sexism that occurs in the industry.

Ever heard of a toddler catching tarpon, bonefish, and snook? If you've ever wanted to get your kids (or young grandkids) into fishing, then you're going to love this episode. We have Capt. Scott Brown to discuss how he's getting his entire family out having an absolute blast on the water (even his 3-year old and infant). Enjoy!
Just as there is an art to tying perfect tarpon flies, there is also an art to storing them to prevent rust and to keep them performing as intended and to prevent the possibility of fouling (a Tarpon fisherman’s nightmare). There are lots of ways to do it, but today I am going to go over the methods taught to me by Fitz Coker. It has proven to be the best way I have ever seen to organize, protect and preserve the expensive investment crucial to success. With new technology like the Plano Edge box, this method has become even better.
"Why Fishing Will Die If We Don't Fix This..." That's a hard-hitting title of a recent podcast episode by Salt Strong's Joe Simonds. If that's not an attention grabber, I'm not sure what is! Needless to say, it certainly grabbed mine.
In songwriting, there's a phenomenon we talk about where two writers in two totally different locations and even genres will grab the exact same clever idea for a song out of the ether at the same time and write two very similar songs. I'm not saying that's exactly what happened here, but as we were planning this series on the importance of introducing new anglers to the sport of fishing I noticed our friends over at Salt Strong were on a similar tack. (Links to those episodes are included in our Additional Resources section below so you can go check them out, we highly recommend the listen.)
As we always say, "We're better together!" That's why I knew we had to have Joe back on the show for this important series. We wanted to continue the conversation from an industry insider standpoint and maybe put our collective heads together to see just what the solution is to save the future of the fishing industry.
As you'll discover in this episode, it doesn't seem as though there's one magical answer here but there's no doubt about that YOU play a huge part in the solution.
We hope you're enjoying this series, and I guarantee you will NOT WANT TO MISS next week's episode as we wrap things up on an incredibly high note!
