Sunset at Deerfoot Lodge Resort in Hayward, WI
Amanda Wilson is the owner of Deerfoot Resort located on the beautiful Chippewa Flowage in northern WI. The resort is on a private peninsula has several cabins, a motel and a bar that serves up good food and good fun. (They even have a peanut butter burger)!
Being a business owner, Amanda doesn't have a lot of time to spend in the outdoors, but when she does, she chases musky. Two years ago, Amanda won a local musky tournament where there she is part of an all-woman team. Her winning Musky was over 50 inches long, and her win even made the front page of the local paper. The very next year, her tournament partner Kristen, won the same tournament! There are 200 teams registered in the tournament and two years in a row the only all Women team took the highest honors.
Amanda started an annual Ladies Musky School which is held at Deerfoot Resort every fall. The clinic provides on the water hands-on experience and some classroom. Many instructors are women and the timing of the school is right when the Muskies are putting on the feed bag for winter. The web site is a popular destination year-round and caters to anglers, snowmobilers, and families that return year after year. -Barb Carey
