2022 was the year Tom Hoge had been waiting his whole life for.

The Fargo native had his breakthrough season on the PGA Tour, earning his first two wins and a trip to the Masters. For those reasons, he's WDAY's Athlete of the Year.

Hoge bookended his year with an induction into the Fargo South Hall of Fame and with a second win, at a team event in Florida.

Jerry Rosburg has been an NFL assistant coach for most of the last 21 years, from Cleveland to Atlanta to Baltimore to Denver. He won a Super Bowl with the Ravens to cap the 2013 season. The former North Dakota State linebacker hasn't lost touch with his alma mater, though.

He spoke to the Bison last January in Frisco, Texas, the day before the Football Championship Subdivision game against Montana State, a contest won 38-10 by NDSU.

North Dakota State hadn't played a home game since November so the Bison welcomed a return to the Sanford Health Athletic Complex on Monday night.

A return to Scheels Center proved to be the perfect elixir to halt a four-game losing streak.

NDSU earned a spot in the FCS title game for the 10th time in the past 12 seasons and another trip to Frisco, Texas. The Bison fell behind by 16 points in the first quarter before rallying for victory. Bison running back Kobe Johnson rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns on 15 attempts.

Chase Blackmun, a fifth year defenseman at Notre Dame, has become an inspiration for half-brother Cooper Hills, a sophomore right winger for the East Grand Forks Green Wave hockey team.

"It's so unreal seeing him achieve all his goals. Obviously it makes me want to do the same thing one day, possibly play division one hockey," said Hills. "It's hard to explain how special it is for me to see him reach that and push me to do the same, and hopefully even better."

Concordia and Minnesota State Moorhead haven't played each other in football since 2007, but the schools explored playing again next fall with the Dragons and Cobbers having the same open week.

The issue: The Cobbers were already locked into their maximum 10-game schedule, including two nonconference opponents that are under contract for the next two seasons.

Fresh off a third-place finish at state last season, Fargo Davies girls basketball is picking up right where they left off, Cullen. The Eagles have double-digit wins over Grand Forks Central and Sheyenne this year and part of their success lies in the special bond between mother and daughter.

"I really enjoy playing for her," said Davies junior guard Ashton Safranski. "It's kind of hard to separate home from practice. We talk about basketball home and here, so it's just good to have her as coach."

Another week brings another prolific offense to Fargo as NDSU gets set to host Incarnate Word in the FCS semifinals Friday. UIW brings Walter Payton award front-runner Lindsay Scott. The seventh-year Cardinals quarterback has thrown 59 touchdown passes and run for nine more. He was instrumental in leading UIW past Sacramento State in Friday's quarterfinal and he'll be a handful for this young Bison defense.
