Four Minnesota football teams punched their ticket to the state tournament Thursday in section championship games at the FargoDome. All four teams won back-to-back titles.

In Section 6 9-man, Blackduck took a 14-12 lead in the second quarter, but Fertile-Beltrami scored 34 unanswered points to win 46-14.

With most of the team gone from a year ago, North Dakota State's annual exhibition men's basketball game to open the season Wednesday night turned into more of an introduction of new players. There are plenty.

A familiar face, however, showed he's no longer a backup role player. Sophomore Andrew Morgan, who played in 21 games a year ago with no starts, will be NDSU's man in the middle. No questions asked.

The football rivalry between Fargo North and Fargo South has a long and storied history, but it's been more than two decades since they took that rivalry to the postseason. North and South last faced off in the playoffs in 2000. This year it's a bit of deja vu.

"I mean it's been going on for a long time. Last game my uncle played when they beat South in the semifinals in 2000," said North junior running back Jim Miller. "It's the first thing he told me when I woke up when we found out we were playing South."

The statistical sheet hasn't been looking kind on Western Illinois this season, starting with the all-important wins and losses. Zero victories. Eight defeats.

North Dakota State football players won't have to look far to see issues the Leathernecks have faced this season. But when the Bison travel to Macomb, Ill., for the 1 p.m. kickoff at Hanson Field, they'll have heard the two phrases of emphasis this week from the coaching staff countless times.

UND hockey fans will pour into Las Vegas this weekend.

North Dakota takes the big stage to take on southwest foe Arizona State at T-Mobile Arena - with a seating capacity of over 17,000.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the upcoming UND basketball seasons. On the women's side, the Fighting Hawks add prized recruits Rakiyah Beal and Nakiyah Hurst to the mix.

UND women's basketball team was a pleasant surprise last season, increasing their win total from two to 15 and finishing with a .500 record. Those highly-touted freshman have the Hawks optimistic about the season.

The Perham Yellowjackets only needed two plays to score on the opening drive of the game and never looked back on their way to a 34-7 win over Park Rapids Area in the Section 8AAA quarterfinals.

The Bison football team returns to the field this weekend after having extra time to sit and stew about the loss to South Dakota State from two Saturdays ago.

NDSU will welcome in Illinois State to the FargoDome this Saturday, but all the attention will be focused on the Bison. They have won 37 straight games coming off a bye week, and head coach Matt Entz said they kept their routine the same in preparation for this week.
