Jack Beers:
“Don't waste your gold dust. You know, I love that line. It's the last line of the book don't waste your gold dust. Tell me about what gold dust means.”

Matthew Kelly:
“Yeah, it's interesting because I, as you know, I rewrote the ending of the book at least a dozen times, and then there's some lines they just cut.

There's some lines, they just come, and they come in the middle of the night. You don't know where they come from, and you don't know how they come, and you wish you did, because you'd like to recreate it all over again. That's one of them, don't waste your gold dust. I think it just has this feel to it that is intriguing, that is challenging, that is ... it goes back to the Japanese ceramics. The idea that they mix the gold dust in with the glue when they glued back the vases or the bowls. It's not the glue that makes the ceramics beautiful, it's the gold dust that makes the ceramics beautiful. In the book ... let's see if we can find it. Talks about the idea, this might be a close second to the unrecognized spiritual needs line.

The most beautiful and surprising lesson that the Japanese art form of Kintsugi teaches us is this, we are each others wounded healers. We each possess the gold dust needed to glue other people back together, making them more beautiful and more lovable than ever. It is our love, connection, acceptance, generosity, community and kindness that are the gold dust. That's your gold dust. Your goodness is your gold dust. Your ability to love and be generous, be kind and thoughtful, compassionate. That's your gold dust. It is desperately needed by everyone in your life in order for them to be healed, put back together, to become more beautiful and more lovable than ever.

To withhold your gold dust is more than a crime. It's a treachery. I think we do sometimes, we withhold our gold dust, and that's tragic. We waste our gold dust. Don't waste your gold dust.”

Jack Beers:
“If you're watching this on a video, just pause, and just sit with that for a hot second. "Don't waste your gold dust." It's an incredible standard. Maybe it's better to say it's an incredible responsibility, and is there a more important responsibility for me than to be each others wounded healers? That's just...”

Matthew Kelly:
“Yes, but at the same time, it is a standard and a responsibility that is perfectly matched for you. I think on days when I ger overwhelmed, or I get frazzled and I get stressed, or I get cranky, or whatever, I have to sit back and say, "What is happening here?" The conclusion that I have to come to, is that I am trying to do more in this day, in this 24 hour period, than God intends for me to do.

Assess the landscape and work out, which parts of this day are coming from ego, or coming from ambition, or coming from parts of me that are not aligned with God. When we walk with God, we should very rarely be overwhelmed. Usually when we're overwhelmed, when something seems too massive, it's because we're trying to do part of God's job. We should be overwhelmed when we make that mistake.”
