We Are West Ham Podcast

After a strong performance in the 2-1 win over SC Freiburg on Thursday night, a much different and harder test awaits us at London Stadium on Sunday.

Newcastle have become a force to be reckoned with since their takeover and have followed up their break into the top four last season with an unbelievable return to Champions League football this term, drawing 0-0 with AC Milan at San Siro before thrashing PSG 4-1 at St. James' Park earlier this week.

We knew they would prove to be a difficult test for us, but given their recent results, including the 8-0 annihilation of Sheffield United, it's clearly going to be even harder than we'd imagined!

Joining us this week to preview the game is The Sun's Sports News Editor and huge Magpies fan, Toby Gannon, who gives us the full lowdown on his beloved Newcastle and explains just how crazy it is to be a fan of his club right now after going from perennial underperformers to the richest club in world football.

Remember, if you love what we do then PLEASE leave us a nice review on whatever platform you're listening on. It helps us more than you know and allows us to be found by new listeners, helping us grow even more!

As routine victories go, you don't get much more routine than the 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday. It was one of the most comfortable three points we've had in some time, but there were still 'some' question marks around David Moyes' initial approach to the game, with his starting XI raising some eyebrows, especially James'.

It came just a few days after a far less routine victory against Lincoln in the Carabao Cup, which was swiftly followed up by the inevitable fourth-round draw at home to Arsenal, which is now being labelled the Declan Rice Derby for obvious reasons.

Also on this week's show, Heineken's Global Brand PR Lead and huge West Ham fan, Joey Brophy, joins Will for the Claret & Blue View, while Alex from Spodcast Freiburg gives us the full lowdown on SC Freiburg ahead of our Europa League clash on Thursday night.

We round things off, as always, with a look at our Betway Charity Bets before some final thoughts from the lads.

It's another cracking show this week, including a tale of James getting uncharacteristically drunk on Saturday night. You don't want to miss it!

There's LOADS going on this week's episode, with plenty of content to follow throughout the week!

After losing two on the bounce in the Premier League, many will be looking at a home game against newly-promoted Sheffield United as the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways and continue our bid for a third top-seven finish in four seasons.

The Blades are fresh off the back of an 8-0 drubbing at home to Newcastle, which will add to the inevitable confident swagger amongst the fanbase heading into this one, but surely we must be careful of the wounded animal?

This week, Hal Stewart from Sheff United Way joins us to tell us everything we need to know about his beloved Blades, including his views on Paul Heckingbottom, that defeat to Newcastle, the famous Carlos Tevez saga and so much more!

If you're a fan of TV shows such as The Office, The Inbetweeners, Ashes to Ashes, Eastenders and The Bill, then you'll know all about this week's Claret & Blue View guest - it's David Schaal!

Schaal is more commonly known as Jay's Dad from The Inbetweeners. Still, he's also enjoyed an esteemed acting career, playing roles in the aforementioned shows as well as on the big screen, in movies such as The Inbetweeners movies and Kidulthood among many, many others.

He's also a huge West Ham fan and actually joined us on a few away days on our run to the Europa League semi-finals two seasons ago, meeting up with James and Will in the likes of Seville and Lyon.

On this week's Claret & Blue View, Schaal shares his love for West Ham, a brief history of his story, discusses current affairs surrounding the club and gives us an insight into when we can expect to see him on our screens again.

This is a full hour long, hence why we've published it separately to the main pod this week, but it's well worth the listen!

3-1 seems to be the trending scoreline these days, with our 4th and 5th 3-1 scorelines of the season coming in the past week.

First, it was a win over Backa Topola in the Europa League before losing by the same scoreline at Anfield against Liverpool on Sunday.

There's LOADS to unpack in this week's pod, with reaction to those two games before a sneak preview of this week's Claret & Blue View with David Schaal, more commonly known as Jay's Dad from The Inbetweeners. That episode will be released separately later this week.

We also look ahead to our Carabao Cup third-round trip to Lincoln City with a chat with Charlie Beeston from The Stacey West, before picking our Betway Charity Bets for Saturday's visit of Sheffield United.

There's LOADS going on this week's episode, with plenty of content to follow throughout the week!

There's absolutely no shame in losing to this Man City side, so there's absolutely no negativity in this podcast from us.

If anything, there were so many positives to take from the defeat and if we had managed to hold out and take something from the game then no one would've been able to complain. It was a good performance but ultimately we were beaten by one of the best teams in world football, if not the best team on the planet right now. No shame in that!

Also this week, former member of the podcast, Reece Bayliss, joins Will for the Claret & Blue View, Will attempts to preview Thursday night's Europa League clash with Backa Topola and we pick our Betway Charity Bets for Sunday's trip to Liverpool.

In this video, we discuss...

It's a clash of the Champions of Europe, the unbeaten, title challengers and good friends. Saturday's visit of Man City represents many things, and it could see either West Ham go top of the league or Man City make it five wins from five at the start of the season.

Joining us this week is big friend of the show, Ste Tudor, from the 93:20 Podcast, to give us everything we need to know about City ahead of Saturday's 3pm kick-off in Stratford.

As always, Ste gives us quality insight on his beloved City - this one is always worth a listen!

With the international break almost behind us, we can once again look ahead to our next fixture. This weekend, it's Man City's turn to try and end West Ham's unbeaten start to the season.

Indeed, City are also unbeaten at this point, so this is kind of like an early season clash of two very serious title hopefuls. Kind of.

On this week's Claret & Blue View, broadcaster, journalist and huge West Ham fan joins us to talk about his thoughts on the club right now, while James and Will get back to selecting their Betway Charity Bets in the hope they can secure a first win of the season for their chosen charities.

And finally this week, with very little proper football to discuss, the lads discuss their cultural differences, with Will very clearly astounded at James' lack of cultural interests.

It doesn't sound like much of an engaging listen this week, but it absolutely is. You'll just have to take our word for it.

Reminder: The Opposition View, with Ste Tudor from the 93:20 Podcast, will be published separately later this week.

This is all a bit fun, isn't it?

It's our best start to a Premier League season for over 20 years and when you consider three of our opening four games of the season have been away from home, it's even more impressive that we're unbeaten and sitting nicely in the top four of the Premier League going into the first international break.

Whatsmore, we've finally learned our opponents for this season's Europa League and it's certainly an exciting one. In Group A, we face Olympiacos, SC Freiburg and Serbian outfit Backa Topola. It's arguably the toughest group we've been dealt over the last three seasons but we definitely have enough about us to progress to the knockout stages. The worst-case scenario is we come third, drop into the Conference League and just go and win that again!

Also on this week's show, we...

It's now the international break but we'll be back again next week ahead of the visit of our title rivals Manchester City.

Finally, if you love what we do then PLEASE leave us a nice review on whatever platform you're listening on. It helps us more than you know and allows us to be found by new listeners, helping us grow even more!
