September 08, 2021 147: West Ham's striker myth, International Break and a chat with BGT finalist James Smith
Not long now before the return of 'proper football' as the latest round of World Cup qualifiers take centre-stage.

West Ham have no fewer than 10 players out on international duty, including our three newest recruits - Kurt Zouma, Nikola Vlasic and Alex Kral.

Declan Rice has obviously grabbed most of the headlines after scoring in the 4-0 win away at Hungary and winding up the Hungarian ultras in the process, while Antonio made his international bow for Jamaica in a 3-0 defeat to Panama last weekend.

But while we do cover a bit of that on this week's episode, much of it involves James and Reece ripping apart a recent Daily Mail article that claimed Vlasic was the club's 50th striker signing in the GSB era, even though he's not a striker and half of the players they've included in the list are either midfielders, wingers or youngsters who never made a first-team appearance.

The article particularly annoyed James who, despite acknowledging the fact West Ham's inability to sign a proper striker is definitely real, was desperate to set the record straight on this week's show.

Also this week, in the absence of Will - who is currently having a rubbish holiday in Portugal - James steers the ship and manages not to fumble his words, while he's also joined by 2015 Britain's Got Talent Finalist James Smith, who is a huge West Ham fan. The brilliant James Smith is currently working on his debut album and his new single 'Got The Love' is a track you really need to get in your ears!

Unfortunately, there is no Opposition View or West Ham Women's Section this week, but this is still an episode you don't want to miss!

Thanks so much for listening!

August 31, 2021 146: Europa draw, point vs Palace & what a window!
West Ham are still in the Europa League group stage! It's not a dream.

And that was proved by Friday's draw when the Hammers were picked to play against Dinamo Zagreb, Genk and Rapid Vienna.

It's an exciting time to be a West Ham fan and even Saturday's slightly disappointing 2-2 home draw with Crystal Palace couldn't put a dent in most Hammers' positive vibes.

So imagine how they felt when the club actually made three signings in the last week of the transfer window!

Kurt Zouma arrived from Chelsea, Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow and Alex Kral from Spartak Moscow.

Still no striker but all in all, it was a solid enough window and with Irons fans' expectations on the floor in recent times, there seemed a pretty buoyant mood among the fanbase after Tuesday's deadline.

Will Pugh is joined by James Jones and Reece Bayliss to discuss all of that and more.

There's Palace reaction, Betway charity bets, West Ham Women with the Daily Mail's Kathryn Batte, a quiz and plenty beyond.

Thanks so much for listening!

August 24, 2021 145: Cottee backs PAI and West Ham top the Prem
WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE! WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!

That's right, after thrashing Newcastle on the opening weekend of the season, the lads followed it up by THRASHING Leicester City in front of a packed London Stadium on Monday.

Two games played. Eight goals scored. Top of the Premier League. WE ARE MASSIVE!

What's more, Michail Antonio is now the club's all-time leading Premier League goalscorer, Said Benrahma just keeps getting better and better, and Pablo Fornals put in arguably his best performance in claret & blue (and thankfully his leg isn't broken, either!).

So on this week's show, the lads welcome Reece Bayliss to the team as they react to that HUGE win against Leicester and have a pretty difficult time trying to pick their Man of the Match. It was really was that perfect.

Also this week, Tony Cottee returns to give us the lowdown on why he's backing PAI Capital's takeover bid, giving us his first official interview since going public with his endorsement of PAI's plans to buy the club, while James and Will spend some time reacting to his interview.

We're also joined by Max Matthews - sports journalist and Crystal Palace fans - to preview this Saturday's home clash with Patrick Vieira's side. Can we make it three from three going in to the international break?

And as always, the lads discuss their Betway Charity Bets ahead of the Palace game.

It's a packed show, full of positivity and anticipation for what's to come under this wonderful era under David Moyes. How could it get even better!?

Thanks so much for listening!

August 17, 2021 144: Toon, takeover and transfer talk with two hours of Tony (Cottee)
West Ham legend Tony Cottee joins the lads for the ENTIRE two hour show as he steps in as the third member of We Are West Ham.

The Hammers icon opens up about his departure from Sky Sports after 20 years, answers questions surrounding his involvement with the PAI Capital takeover bid, reveals his concerns over the lack of summer transfers and looks ahead to his old club Leicester's visit to the London Stadium on Monday night.

West Ham got their season off to a perfect start with a 4-2 win at St James' Park against Newcastle on Sunday thanks to goals from magic Aaron Cresswell, super Tomas Soucek, silky Said Benrahma and marvellous Michail Antonio.

Will Pugh, James Jones and Tony react to the fantastic win as well as analysing any areas they'd like to see improved.

The Betway charity bets return and the boys have already had a winner! Ans the lads make their selections for the Foxes game.

Having scored 34 goals for Leicester in 100 games between 1997 and 2000, and still working for them now, Tony provides an excellent opposition view and gives a run down of what to expect from Brendan Rodgers' team.

And the show wraps up with a Q&A where Tony answers questions on anything and everything from the boys and the We Are West Ham listeners.

All of that and so much more. It's an absolute corker of an episode.

Thanks so much for listening.

August 10, 2021 143: Atalanta at a canter & The Prem is back!
The We Are West Ham podcast is back!

Will Pugh and James Jones said goodbye to Tom Edwards over the summer but say hello to an exciting new Premier League campaign.

The boys will be back producing weekly shows with special guests and features as they attempt to take the podcast to new heights in 2021-22.

Messrs Gold, Sullivan, Moyes, Rice and Noble et al will hopefully be trying to do the same to West Ham United as they look forward to a fully fledged European campaign.

Still no outfield players have been signed, but having gone a full pre-season unbeaten, the players in David Moyes' squad have shown they are willing to do their part even if they are left short of team-mates.

Will attended the glorious Betway Cup win over Champions League side Atalanta at London Stadium on Saturday and the boys have a right old debrief.

Chad Yeomans presented the trophy to Mark Noble after the game and he dials in to kick-off the first Betway charity bet section of the season.

And ahead of West Ham's opening game of the campaign against Newcastle AGAIN, The Athletic's Magpies correspondent Chris Waugh joins in to give the lowdown on the hosts ahead of the opening day clash at St James' Park.

Will and Jonesy sum up their pre-season expectations and pick their projected star and flop of the campaign.

The West Ham Women segment will return but a little closer to the season.

And then the boys say goodbye for another week.

Thanks so much for listening.

July 22, 2021 141: Takeover, shmakeover
Will Pugh and James Jones stop by for another quick chat in the middle of the summer break.

The lads cover England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy at Wembley that Jonesy was lucky enough to attend.

West Ham’s wonderful new kit gets a mention as do Michail Antonio, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals’ shirt number switches.

The lads run through some of the recent transfer rumours – namely Jesse Lingard’s return from Man Utd, Tammy Abraham’s potential arrival from Chelsea and the prospective departures of Jarrod Bowen and Issa Diop.

Will also gives a run down of his exclusive story regarding Felipe Anderson’s departure to Lazio and the subsequent funds that have been freed up as a result and how the club will have those available to them in negotiations with Declan Rice.

Takeover rumours have surfaced again which the boys evaluate before wrapping up with a summary of the Irons’ pre-season friendlies so far.
