  • Episode 37: GoodAsian
Hey there ACC-tion heroes! Today we give a SPOILERY review of Pornsak Picketshote's and Alexandre Tefenkgi's The Good Asian, from Image. It is absolutely no secret that we're fans of Pornsak's work as a writer and editor, and we had an absolute blast with him in our interview with him (Volume 2, Episode 35, btw.) And here we get to go into great detail about WHY.

In a line, if you like noir thrillers and social justice, this is the book for you.

  • Episode 36: Falcon and The Winter Soldier Recap with Director Warren Williams
Hey There Acction heroes! To wrap up our coverage of Falcon and The Winter Solider (note, there will be spoilers!) we invited community organizer, director, and editor extraordinaire, Warren Williams to help us recap the entire show. We revisit our discussion of Sam and Misogyny, talk about how weirdly chaste the MCU is, and we even briefly discuss Daredevil.

Spoiler on DD: Marty's solo on this one!

We had a blast connecting with Warren, and we are so looking forward to letting you in on this conversation. Clearly, we're going to have him back.

  • All Comics Considered Episode 35: An Interview with Pornsak Picketshote
Hey there Acc-Tions heroes! We're back with a fantastic interview with Pornsak Picketshote, writer of Infidel and the up coming The Good Asian. Pornsak got his start at the late great Vertigo imprint, where he edited some titles you may have heard of, including:

    We3
    Hellblazer
    The Losers
    Swamp Thing
    Sweet Tooth

The list goes on. Seriously. IN ADDITION to this, Pornsak also helped create The Arrowverse, wrote on Cloak and Dagger, 2 Sentence Horror Stories and Light as a Feather.
And that's not all! Pornska has also written and directed his own short films. We're including the link to our favorite, A Conversation About Cheating with My Time Traveling Future Self.

So once this episode is finished, treat yourself to this short film, and on Wednesday, get yourself to your local for The Good Asian!

  • Episode 33: The Tarnished Angel
    Hey There ACC-Tion Heroes!

This week we continue our deep dive into Kurt Busiek's Astro City with The Tarnished Angel. This is, so far, the most Noir of the Astro City stories. It is a look into the lives of the villains Astro City, and the never ending cycle of "one last score." Our protagonist is SteelJack, a man with a steel body who has just been release from prison and his return to his neighborhood to go straight...

This one spoke volumes to Marty. Some come find out why this is the one landed so well!

  • Episode 32: The Black Panther Party
Sorry for the delay in this week's episode, ACC-tion Heroes!

This week, we take a break from WandaVision and AstroCity to talk about an amazing graphic novel: The Black Pantry Party by David F. Walker and Marcus Kwame Anderson.

We recognize that we may not be the best people to talk about this work and this history of the Black Panthers. To that end, we are looking to bring in more Black and activist folks to talk about this particular work and the legacy of the Panthers. But for now, we do a deep dive into the work, discuss the history of the panthers, and discuss our take aways as why this was not included in our education!

  • Episode 31: Family Album
This week, Tim, Nick and Marty continue their deep dive into the world of Astro City with Family Album! We explore the themes and stories behind these collected issues, which focus on the idea of super-hero family.

Now, the only drawback in spending so much time digging into Astro City is we don't have a lot of time left to talk about what we're reading IN ADDITION to Busik's wonderful world. We plan on returning to our Pullbox soon

  • Episode 31: Better Man
In this episode, Marty and Nick deconstruction how the patriarchy impacts folks who identify as men. We also then look to our primary touchstone -- Comics -- to see how what we can glean on what it means to be "a better man."

We're delving into this topic because we have spent a lot of time deconstructing toxic masculinity without building up a better replacement. Tearing down terrible constructs and institutions is good. Given folks examples of what it will take to be 'good' is better.

Please like, share, and let us know on Facebook what you think of this conversation? What did we miss? How does feminist and queer theory address these concepts in a more meaningful way? What comics do a fantastic job of not just deconstruction, but reconstruction -- if reconstruction of masculinity is even the way we should go?
