Today is the first Sunday of Fr. Demetri at the newly formed Assumption-St. George Parish in Dracut, Ma.

In the Gospel Passage today  we hear about a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.  We hear that those who were invited did not choose to attend which left room/seats for others to fill.  Later we hear that someone came inside the feast “without a wedding garment”.

What does this passage mean for us today?

On the third Sunday of June our Nation celebrates Father's Day.  Many may celebrate it with BBQ's, enjoying the day with loved ones, remembering those who have fallen asleep, but there is something important HOW the day should begin!

Did you ever wonder why this day, Mother's Day, the changing of the clocks all happy on a Sunday and not another day of the week?

And what is the GREATEST title any man can be given on earth?

 "Follow Me." As Jesus walks along the Sea of Galilee, He sees Peter and Andrew casting their nets into the sea and then sees James and John mending their nets with their father. To each of them He extends the same call: "Follow Me." What is remarkable is how they respond. The Gospel tells us that they immediately left their nets and followed Him. No excuses. No delays.

The same can be said about the Saints we celebrate today, Prophet Elisha and St. Methodios Pat. of Constantinople.

Today the Sunday after Pentecost is dedicated to All Saints, those who in every generation have lived a life well pleasing to God, because there are many "known" Saints that we have learned about (and from) yet we may not know many of these Holy Men, Women and Children who truly gave their life in following the message of the Gospel.

This month many schools will hold their graduation/moving on ceremonies in which many speakers will offer words of guidance and encouragement, for the fields of vocation that many will begin their steps towards.

What about the steps towards Sainthood?

50 Days after the Resurrection of our Lord something amazing happened to those who were gathered in the upper room.  It took all fear and worry away and brought a fire in spreading the message of the Gospel to the whole world in all languages - This is the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is still as active today as It was on that day of Holy Pentecost, in our personal and parish life.  How?

We live in a world that is full of uncertainty with many distractions.  Along those daily distractions many may find areas of worry or fear in which one may feel that there is a lot of waiting (this example is used in this sermon).  This past Thursday on the 40th day after Pascha we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord.  Why on this Sunday following do we remember the Holy Fathers of the 1st Ecumenical Council?

Today, the second Sunday of the month in May is known as Mother’s Day, and as we honor all mothers in our Parish Family today, we know that its not just one day that we should honor and show them love, this should be every day!

When things are going great, moms know.  When we don‘t feel right, moms know.
