Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist.  This amazing Saint of the Church was not only an apostle (of the 70) but he was also a physician, writer and was gifted with the talent of art.

What did he write and draw that the Church still has to this day?

In the Gospel lesson today we hear about how Sts. Peter, Andrew, James and John worked all night as fishermen yet caught nothing.  After Christ was preaching to all, He called St Peter to cast his net back out into the sea (fishermen would NOT be working at this time of the day) and then something amazing happens.

Christ calls us to trust Him even when His way does not make sense to us - and to place Him at the center of our daily decisions.

In our Faith we learn many things about the Church, the first is that she is the Body of Christ.

But did you know that the Church is also a hospital?…And that it gives us medicine on a regular basis?

Do we take this medicine that is offered to us?

What is this medicine?

What does it truly mean to be successful?

Society often measures our worth by wealth, possessions or status, yet in the Gospel Passage today, our Lord goes straight to the heart of the matter, asking what profit there is in gaining everything the world offers if we lose our very soul in the process.

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Is a question everyone hears when they are younger.  Many may answer with different vocations such as, doctor, nurse, lawyer, police officer, politician, etc.

Yet as Orthodox Christians when we hear this question it should be answered with simply one word.

What is that word? …Listen

What if the most profound love story ever told is one we are living right now, whether we realize it or not?  This sermon invites us to reconsider something we may heard so many times, yet equally forget: God is love

Today is the first Sunday of Fr. Demetri at the newly formed Assumption-St. George Parish in Dracut, Ma.

In the Gospel Passage today  we hear about a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.  We hear that those who were invited did not choose to attend which left room/seats for others to fill.  Later we hear that someone came inside the feast “without a wedding garment”.

What does this passage mean for us today?

What does the term “wedding garment” mean?

What does this Gospel teach us hear at this newly established Parish?
