Today we celebrate Palm Sunday and we heard in the Youth Sermon (Pano Coufos) having children ask their parents to bring them to the services, but it will be up to the parents to decide if that happens.  Just like if we will decide to make this week Great and Holy for us.

Today on this the 4th Sunday of Great Lent, we hear about a young man (who was brought to Christ by his father), who suffered with foaming of the mouth, grinding of teeth, what would be diagnosed today as a form of epilepsy.  We then hear in a dialogue the father of the child state to Christ “I believe, help my unbelief”.

What does this event in the ministry of our Lord have to do with us on our Lenten Journey?

There are many ways that we can announce wonderful events in our life, we can call, text, share a post/update, and yes even send something through snail mail.  Yet this week we once again celebrate the Greatest News that humankind needed to hear.

What do we do now with this Good News?

The Church has been battling an enemy (the devil) from day one.  Though the enemy has many weapons that it uses to hurt and damage our relationship with Christ and eachother, the Church offers all of her faithful a weapon the not only defeated the enemy, but also defeated death.  This is the Cross and it is the Church’s most powerful weapon for those who believe in it!

On this 3rd Sunday of Great Lent, the Church places the focus and offers the support of the Holy Cross to her faithful.  Is the Cross something we just wear around our neck?  Is it just something to do before we kiss an icon?

Forgiveness is at the core of the Christian Faith, and because of this we cannot begin the journey of Great Lent - in growing closer to Christ through prayer, fasting and almsgiving - which begins with seeking and granted forgiveness.

Then it can be a "Clean Monday" (this is what the first day of Great Lent is called) for all who follow this format of forgivness!

Today our Church guides to begin a period of fasting on this Sunday known as Meatfare Sunday.  Yet, the focus is not about what foods we may choose to abstain from, but rather our focus and the 2nd greatest gift Gods has given us (1st is Salvation) that being free will.

Where should our focus be during this time? What are some practical things that I do on a daily basis that I can refocus in and around my soul?

Today is on the Church calendar is Judgement (Meatfare) Sunday in which we hear the Epistle and Gospel readings which focus on how we are to live our life, and that is to have compassion for all.

How?

Zacchaeus teaches us that we always make time for what truly matters. Stewardship of time is not about finding extra hours—it is about choosing Christ intentionally: prayer, worship, reading of Holy Scripture, caring for our neighbor.

When Zacchaeus makes time for Christ, Christ stops, looks up, and calls him by name and then goes to his home.

When we make room for God in our life, our lives change for the better and this is stewardship.
