If you go to see a magic show you might see something like this. The illusionist will be holding something in his hands, and then moments later, it will just vanish. According to your eyes, it is there – and then it isn’t.
Of course, it doesn’t really vanish – the skill of the illusionist makes it seem that way. The illusionist will tell you that the perspective and perception of the audience is everything. When something seems to vanish, it’s like it disappears, or fades away, or goes out of sight, so it can no longer be seen.
One thing that’s like that is grace – favour, kindness, acceptance and benevolence towards others. If someone were to ask how you view the church, you may not use the word “grace”. To some it seems as though grace is vanishing, disappearing, fading away, no longer seen. Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s an illusion, but perception is everything, and we’d love the opportunity to change that.
