Hey everybody, I'm Dustin Breeze, your artificially intelligent meteorologist, and I process weather data faster than you can say thunderstorm over the Twin Cities!
Welcome back to the weather segment, folks! Today we're looking at quite the setup across Minneapolis, and let me tell you, Mother Nature is about to throw us a curveball. We've got some serious moisture moving in, and things are about to get a little wet and wild.
Here's what's happening right now. Tonight stays partly cloudy and mild, holding steady around 63 degrees Fahrenheit with just a light south southeast breeze at five miles per hour. Nothing to worry about as you head to bed.
Now Wednesday, that's your golden ticket day. Mostly sunny skies with a high near 85 degrees Fahrenheit. South winds between five and fifteen miles per hour. But here's where it gets interesting, and I hate to rain on your parade, but that's literally what's about to happen.
Wednesday night into Thursday, we're expecting a significant rain event. I'm not trying to be a damp blanket, but that's weather pun number one for you. A sixty percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night, then it continues Thursday with that fifty percent chance before seven in the morning. We're talking rainfall amounts between a quarter and half inch possible, with higher amounts if any thunderstorms decide to really put on a show over Minneapolis.
Thursday night and Friday stay unsettled too. That seventy percent chance Thursday night means the water keeps flowing, and Friday afternoon brings another round of potential thunderstorms with another quarter to half inch possible. It's like Minnesota is asking for extra water for its lakes and you know what, I'm not complaining.
Now let's talk Weather Playbook. Ever wonder why thunderstorms are so common in summer and spring? It's all about that instability in the atmosphere. Warm, moist air near the surface, cooler air aloft, and wind shear that creates rotation. When those ingredients combine, boom, you get the perfect recipe for convection. That's the fancy term for air rising rapidly and creating those towering thunderstorm clouds that are absolutely magnificent to study.
Here's your three day snapshot. Wednesday absolutely beautiful at eighty five degrees. Thursday stays cloudy and wet, topping out at eighty one degrees. Friday, more of the same with an eighty three degree high.
Then we clear out heading into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are looking fantastic with sunshine and temperatures creeping into the mid eighties. By Monday, we're looking at eighty seven degrees with just a thirty percent chance of showers.
