Good morning, North Texas! It's a cloudy morning out there with some sprinkles, but don't worry, the rain won't start until this afternoon. ☁️
Here's what you need to know:
Today: Mid-50s with mostly cloudy skies, some light afternoon showers.
Tonight: Mid-50s, partly cloudy.
Tomorrow: Mid-60s with increasing rain, potential for stronger storms southeast of Dallas-Fort Worth.
Saturday: Rainy, with rainfall totals reaching 1.5-2 inches. Plan ahead for travel!
Christmas Eve: Rain tapers off, and a cold front moves through.
Christmas Day: Sunny and crisp! The mid-40s start out, warming to the lower 50s in the afternoon. Gusty winds are possible.
Bonus: Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year! But hey, the days will start getting longer from here on out. ☀️
No need to stress about the weather, I'm watching it so you don't have to! Enjoy your Thursday, and I'll see you soon.

It's a chilly start with temperatures in the upper 30s, so grab your jacket! But don't worry, the day will warm up to the lower 60s with just a slight breeze and some high clouds. ️
Tomorrow will be similar but with more clouds in the morning. The good news is that the clouds should clear out in the afternoon, setting the stage for rain on Thursday and Friday. ️
Rain totals could reach 1-1.5 inches between Thursday night and Christmas morning, so be prepared for wet conditions if you have travel plans. ☔️ But don't worry, it won't be cold – temperatures will stay in the 50s. ️
So, enjoy the sunshine today and tomorrow, and be prepared for rain later in the week. And as always, I'm watching the weather so you don't have to!

Enjoy the sunshine! Chilly mornings in the mid-40s will give way to pleasant days with temperatures in the 50s and possibly lower 60s for some western areas.
The weather in North Texas today will be chilly in the mid-40s but sunny with temperatures rising to the 50s and maybe lower 60s for some western areas. Tomorrow will be similar with beautiful weather and temperatures in the 60s. Wednesday will see a change with more clouds and wind, followed by cloudy and rainy weather on Thursday and Friday. Although chillier than in recent days, no winter precipitation is expected. Travel plans this weekend and into next week shouldn't be affected by the weather. More details about a possible white Christmas will be available later in the week.
Key points:
Today: Sunny, chilly morning, temperatures rising to 50s/60s
Tomorrow: Beautiful weather, temperatures in the 60s
Wednesday: More clouds and wind
Thursday/Friday: Cloudy and rainy, but not cold
No winter precipitation is expected this week
Travel plans unaffected
Overall, today and tomorrow offer the best weather, followed by a gradual transition to cloudier and rainier conditions later in the week.

I'm taking you behind the scenes to show you how I measure rain for the National Weather Service as part of the NWS Co-op program. You might be surprised to learn that we don't use our fancy automated weather stations for this important task!
The Official Rain Gauge:
Instead, we rely on a trusty manual rain gauge. This isn't your typical Home Depot variety – it's a specially designed-instrument that's incredibly accurate. As you can see in the video, it has two cylinders: an inner one that holds up to an inch of rain, and an outer one that can hold up to 11 inches!
How It Works:
When it rains, the water collects in the funnel and fills the inner cylinder. Once that's full, it overflows into the outer cylinder. To measure the rainfall, I simply use a dipstick to see how high the water level is in each cylinder. In the video, you'll see that we received 0.69 inches of rain the previous day.
So, why don't we use our automated weather stations to measure rain? While they're great for providing real-time data on temperature, wind speed, and more, their rainfall measurements can be less accurate than those obtained from a manual gauge. That's why the National Weather Service prefers the tried-and-true method for official rain reporting.
I also give you a closer look at my automated weather station. You'll see the rain gauge, the anemometer that measures wind speed and direction, the solar panel that powers the station, and the temperature sensor.
If you're interested in getting real-time updates on my weather station data, you can visit sachseweather.com. And of course, don't forget to subscribe to my channel for more behind-the-scenes weather fun!
I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into the world of official rain measurement. Thanks for watching!

Rainy Friday, Sunny Weekend Ahead: North Texas Morning Weather
Good morning, North Texas! Bacon Roofing (baked right in!) and Aman Plumbing are here to help you navigate today's wet weather and the sunny skies on the horizon.
It's a mild December morning, with temperatures in the mid-50s, but get ready for things to get damp. Showers will move through the area most of the day, starting in the west and spreading east. Brace yourself for a rainy and dreary Friday.
Don't worry, though, the rain won't be a total downpour. Expect most of it to fall between mid-morning and midafternoon, with accumulations of only half an inch to an inch at most. No severe weather or flooding is expected, so just grab your umbrella and keep your chin up!
The good news? This wet spell will clear out by evening, and the weekend is looking fantastic! Saturday morning might start a little cloudy and damp, but things will quickly brighten up. Temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s, and that sunny trend is here to stay through at least Wednesday of next week. Enjoy the pleasant mix of clouds and sun until our next weather system arrives next weekend, but we'll have more details on that later.
As always, I'm your personal weather watcher, keeping you informed so you can plan your days with confidence. Have a great Friday, a fantastic weekend, and we'll chat again soon!
